can someone who solved this say something about whether it’s critical to get M/F/B correct to get the last step solved? And if so, is the wiki page list a match for this puzzle?
Except since some of the category values in the list you need to use are actually incorrect, the solution will only be clean if you work with that particular list. Working off, say, Wikipedia articles for each individual name might in some cases make you miss the solution just because you got the values correct instead.
I can't get the 2nd word of the crossword puzzle. All the other words fit perfectly. I have tried all different ones I can think of, none if them have 9 letters let alone fit with the cross characters.
I found an alternate site to help me properly find that value, however I'm still stuck on what I'm suppose to do with the crossword when finished. I've tried all sorts of variations on what the clue's could mean, but i'm fairly sure I've solved the crossword.
What's happening here is that you're using one list of translations when there's another word that will fit, probably from your first source. Use that one.
Does that clue have anything to do with Exotic Matter? I've tried 6 character passwords and 6 character PASSwords to no avail.. Would confirming the length of the password for this step be too big of a clue? I'm wondering if maybe I have a bad answer in my clue but everything fit perfectly so thats where I'm overthinking I think.
You might have a bad answer, but the word intersections are a pretty good form of error checking, so if they all meet you may just need to reload the encryption page as mentioned above before putting a new guess in
The fact that you are saying what you're saying means you have the correct idea
i wasted far too much time trying to cover all combinations of B vs M variants with the wrong code system. Definitely the only weakness of an otherwise excellent puzzle!!!
Once you have 12 F, 8 M, and 7 B you only need to figure out the right code system ... and when you have that, there are few ways to translate the MFBs to the right symbols ... also the last code system is a common one (although obscured a little)
Neither. There was very useful comment about "easy to find clear source which gives you the male / female / both gender". I had M/F list from different sources, but that did not work, wasted time on that. You need to find _the source_, although it's easy.
This mention of an obscurity is bothering me. I've found a code that uses 3 letters in different patterns and it seems to make sense given the number of items in the list... but nothing seems to spell anything relevant.
If you have the right code system, you won’t have many options. Each of M, F and B translate to a “symbol” in the code, and one of M F or B has to be a particular symbol leaving you only needing to figure out what the other two are.
If you are trying to cover a lot of possible options then you probably have the wrong system.
I went from frustrated for hours to eureka in a flash.

I was also stuck there until a second set of eyes helped me find the right position.
Look carefull on the crossword doc, maybe you missing something.

I guess it should be correct. Niantic wouldn't use it if it introduce confusion and variation.
I JUST solved this, been looking at it for hours. Yes, you do need the M/F/B correct and I did use Wikipedia.
👏👏👏 Thank you very much, i was looking for something diferent 🤣
And still I am lost.. And don't know what to do with that..
Not entirely critical but I can envision scenarios where not getting all the values correct (or wrong, actually, see below) could lead you astray.

Any tips? Not sure how else I can manipulate this string of M's, F's, and B's...

I don't get it xD

Ok, so is the correct (correct in the sense that it will let you solve the puzzle) list contain : 12 F, 8 M, 7 B ?
Edited to answer my own question ... this is just fine

do not overthink this, there is a visible clue to how to start this process

Yes, correct.
Any hints on the cryptobin?
Woot! Got it!

Dang, what form of string manipulation are we after here
Congrats! It seems like we were close, anything you can offer for another nudge in the right direction? I have a string of 27 M/F/B's.
🥺
Any hints about the "male, female, both"?
Grammatical genrder or alphabetical gender?

yeah triliteral was the first thing that came to mind, but no dice
