I still think the system is a bit ridiculous. It doesn't even stop you from posting links, really.
(You know it's a great UI when clicking on your profile picture at the top of the page doesn't bring up an option to view your own profile. No, you have to click on Preferences and then find the tiny link that's just your user name in the top right. Or click on All Notifications, which of course is also your profile.)
You don't need a level, you just need to be on the right site. Now that players of other games can contribute to the network, all portal related functions have been moved to the new Wayfarer site at https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/

I think it's likely an anti-spam "feature" of the forum software.
I've seen a lot of forums with inactive moderators get random spammy links posted by bots on long forgotten threads.
It doesn't come as a surprise that a resistance agent suggests something like this 😛

I wonder what the endgame of this ranking is for. It's like a game within a game wrapped up in a game.
Personally, I would like to be level 2 so I can appeal portals
How many points for “like”?
How many points for posting?
What other actions garner points?
Where can I even see my points?
This whole system is not very well explained.
