Reddit is an awful platform and I outright refuse to use X with Elon at the helm.
Telegram is my primary communication method and likely to remain so.
Given Niantic have not interacted with us on here, in like forever, I'm not that sad to see it go. What saddens me is it's obvious Niantic has no intention to increase player interaction.
We've actually been getting new players lately, the anomalies have been great and shard night was awesome.
Big thanks to the XM Ambassadors sticking around as well.
Well.... there was a promise made to an xfac couple that was not fulfilled and emails regarding it bounced back to the sender so the assumption was she'd been let go.
I guess everyone has a different definition of working....
While that's technically true, there was still more than three months' notice on the revised timeline:
2018-10-08: Google announces shutdown for end of August 2019
2018-12-10: Shutdown moves to April 2019; APIs to sunset within 90 days
2019-04-02: Shutdown date arrives
The Takeout data was not perfect by any means, but it does include the (perfectly readable) text of every post and comment I made on Google+. What it doesn't do is preserve that content online for others to see.
Well, if you never respond to posts or interact with the community...it won't work. Not sure why it wasn't someone's first 15-30 minutes of their day to check the forums and actually respond to posts other than a few bug threads.
The Internet is an amazing way to connect to people. But I think they don't want the interaction as much as they want to just tell us things. Reddit as a forum is less censored and will become a snowball of derision. I wouldn't have suggested it as a replacement.
If anything, it should just be a sub forum on whatever the wayfarer forums evolve into. Requires your Ingress login to reply in the forums. Would be some simple self advertisement to users who might play some of Niantic's other games. Advertisement isn't something that Niantic is good at. Unless you have partnered with Nintendo or such.
Discord is chat and voice chat. Similar to Slack, but has voice (unless Slack now has that too?) How is that comparable to a forum? Unless I missed something and Discord has forums now?
that's one half of the answer, the team somehow plans to connect to players. But that's not how players used the forums, since Thia did not care to post here anyway. The real problem is players won't have global place where they can ask questions and find answers (reddit or twitter are just bad)
Slack definitely has voice chat and has for some time now. Now…the caveat to Slack is that they've been redesigning their free offerings and effectively hamstrung the product, unless you purchase an enterprise/business subscription.
I would love to hear more about this strategy from Brian or thia. Does it not speak to the level of community outreach/interaction/participation if players can't tell whether one is still employed by the company or not?

Well I came back for one last post.

So long and thanks for all the fish.
As usual, Perry speaks thinking he knows more about Niantic while in Australia.
LinkedIn isn't so much of a reality.

Then I was provided bad intel, sorry folks.
I edited my original post to prevent any more confusion.
I guess to be fair NIA never really used the forums for updates anyways, they just use Twitter which is just as toxic as reddit.
Glad you were able to edit. I think dropping the below as a reply to this comment makes sense for the flow of conversation about Thia.

I wouldn't suggest reddit just because of its IPO happening this year.
Strange he thinks a web forum doesnt work ? what is it that they need i dont get it....
discord would be a better choice then reddit atleast even if i dont like it much either but u can create different subforums there.
The subreddit doesn’t looks pretty alive neither. You can easily skip days on the first page when sorting by date.
I remembered that the Ingress team tried Reddit before. Wonder why they decided to go back.

That's just dumb to add the forums to this
Why is xgress even on there?
They do also have Xgress on there which isn’t anything Niantic related.
Maybe niantic killed xgress?

Niantic understands that most of the remaining core-subscribing player base will happily gobble up whatever niantic decides to excrete.
So why bother spending time and effort with a community that is too busy buying swag and core to ever put their foot down and boycott?
So much hate for the game, got to say I'm not going to miss your posts. You really should find something you like to do, and go do it.
she still has the admin tag feathercuffs but u wont be able tell on reddit
Honestly, I imagined sometimes what if someone made a website about Niantic’s game-related mistakes based on the “Killed by Google” thing.
Last Post before it is locked down.
Thanks for apo the chocolate fish

So,goodbye forum.
Well,00:12 utc+3 1st April,still not "read-only" for this second.
I hope this was Fools day joke
It will be either 0:00 UTC or some time during the day in California, I suspect (and probably the latter)
