Reverting Temporary Changes
Effective 31 March, AP for Portal recharging will return to its original value of 10 AP, down from 65 AP.
Each quarter, we will evaluate the following temporary changes added in early 2020 to determine their impacts on gameplay while considering real world circumstances:
- Number of Level 7 Resonators deployed per Portal by Level 7+ Agents return to its original 1 deploy count, down from 2 deploys per Portal
- Portal cooldown between hacks to be adjusted up from 90 seconds
Agents will be given at least two weeks' notice of planned changes made to the temporary changes above.
As always, please remember to be aware of your surroundings. We encourage players to follow local health and safety guidelines when playing Ingress (such as wearing masks and maintaining at least six feet/two meters of distance from other people). For the latest on in-game events and feature updates, be sure to check COMM > NEWS.

yay thanks for this <3
BB are not anomalies 😓
So, anomalies are now “battle beacon events”?
Meh.
although, real anomalies are probably not a good idea until the latency issues are resolved.
this is exciting, might have to start devoting more time to Ingress again....
"Effective 31 March, AP for Portal recharging will return to its original value of 10 AP, down from 65 AP."
This post is NOT the place for this. This should be a separate post letting people know. Don't try to bury bad news in a post about new events and other things.
And, that change s-u-c-k-s.
A question we have, do the kinetic capsules completed while the optima challenge isn't live count towards the medal or not? Is it only capsules completed during the event week that count?
That's a lot of interesting events on the docket.
I would most love to see the threat of increased cooldown between hacks removed once and for all though given we've been living with that change for so long and it has boosted activity and fielding in my area.
Setting cooldown to it's pre-covid values is one of the dumbest things you could have thought of.
It's going to be a fun quarter. no? Thanks!
Agreed with thesolo, the Recharge rate drop from 65 to 10 is annoying(10 was always considered cheap) and can hurt participation. If you want a middle ground, try 50 or 48 instead. While at 65, my game participation increased. Please re-think this. All else is perfect.
Interesting stuff you got here...
A beacon party, f.k.a. "anomaly" on Easter. Links under fields. And losing a lot of those COVID bonuses. (shrugs...)
Still haven't gotten my CORE pass code, btw. That was $60 well spent.
Ingress agent burnout coming soon to an area near you!
No, really we do like events, but basically something every weekend? This is starting to feel like another game that shall not be named.
The form asks for an area with a 10 km diameter. Is this a mistake? Is it supposed to say 10 km^2 area? 10km diameter would be substantially bigger than any anomaly playbox I've ever seen. In my home of Washington, DC, it's hard to draw a 10km diameter circle in the city. Our past anomaly playboxes have generally been in the "downtown core" which generously has a diameter of 4km. An area of 10 km^2 could fit while being in a walkable, portal-dense, safe, interesting part of the city. 10km diameter - not so much.
I'm going to miss the double deploy level 7 resonators a lot. They significantly helped a lot when you were playing solo to build decent mini farms and restocking on gear. Otherwise I am hyped about all the events!
"Effective 31 March, AP for Portal recharging will return to its original value of 10 AP, down from 65 AP."
Not cool, Bob.
Ready for the battle 😎
That's now the playbook, take everything people like from Pogo and slam it into Ingress, even if it doesn't make sense. We already had sojourner and didn't need Epoch, or daily hack bonuses, or AP just for tap-hacking a portal once a day, but we got all of it. This event schedule feels just like Pogo's.
"Kinetic energy distance reduced from 8km to 4km"
If this is an Optima challenge, why is this 4km instead of 2km, like previous Optima k-capsule events?
I'm curious, will there be a way to participate remotely in the Kythra Anomalies? My city doesn't meet the requirements, and Canada historically doesn't get many anomaly sites in general.
1. What is NOT clear is are we back to F2F First Saturdays for April? That would be great.
2. Easter weekend is not great timing I would have gone a week up or down from that.
3. Inventory turnover will be the name of the game for Spring.
I was subbed for 12 months, gave it up. Didn’t get any code either, and I guess that is by design. Still feels like an f-you, to be honest. Ah well.
Because it isn't an Optima challenge. It seems to be just tacked on to the Earth Day event.
AP down to 10 per recharge seems fine. I really, REALLY hope they leave the hack cooldown alone, though.
Except it mentions that that metric is coming back. Again. Should be the same as the previous ones. Maybe they forgot what metric they used for the prior event? Forgot to proof read the post? *shrug *
1. doubtful you will get 'offical' in-person fs until atleast June, doesn't stop you from organizing one tho...
2. Could be mixed, maybe they did that in the hope more would be organically moving.....
3. Isn't that the point anyway, stale inventory doesn't earn ap...
What I meant is that the event itself is not advertised as another Optima round. While it sounds like you'll get one last chance to get the Optima badge, it's not the main focus of the event.
@NianticOfficial could you make an Google calender csv with all that events? I hate it to creat for every event an entrie and than get some days befor the event an email with the CSV file 😅
I have also to plan my freetime 🤣
Remember when people complained about no events on here? Pepperidge Farms remembers.
The drop in Ap for recharge is not necessary: the world has changed permanently and recognising that could easily be a narrative tool. The only reason I still play and now have nearly 600million AP because I continued playing is because that gain in recharge AP kept me interested during lockdown.
The change in deploy levelling is understandable as it appears a tactical reversal, but again not necessary. What it has induced is greater gameplay (more use of the game for you, more income). Keeping it doesn't devalue L8 portals and the desire to have them. It allows players who are mid-serious players to gather items more easily and allows them to more easily combat the full timers. Noone likes an impossible challenge and the lockdown changes really helped combat entrenchment.
"The people" are not a monolith with a single viewpoint.
"The people" asked for anomalies to come back. Some individuals think that these Battle Beacon events count. I don't. 🤷♂️ C'est la vie.
