[2.138.1] Cannot download Ingress with Basic Integrity

The changelog for 2.138.1 mention that Google Play Integrity was enabled with Basic Integrity.
Enabled Google Play Integrity (basic integrity) on Android.
It seems however that the Play Store itself checks for Strong integrity instead, not allowing me to download (or potentially update) Ingress.
I have heard from others with two devices that they cannot download Ingress on the device without Strong integrity either due to a custom OS or root, but can do so without problems on devices that pass the Strong integrity check.

Play Store is configured by Niantic to check for Strong Integrity. Confirmed by Brian Rose in this post:
