What are your suggestions for the Campfire map in Ingress?

PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

Or just in general for Campfire.

Currently you can view the Pokémon GO map in Campfire and filter for all of these (as well as Parks, but it wouldn’t fit in my screenshot)

For Ingress, we have Meetups and Groups that could be added. Would viewing scheduled Battle Beacons or Volatile Portals on this map be useful? Or something else?

In addition, the Ingress chat gets filled with people mistaking it for the other game so that would need sorting out.

A minor cosmetic thing would be having Agent names the relevant colour for being green/blue.

How about porting the Intel map there?

  • RyantRyant ✭✭

if they make a skin of the intel map onto campfire that would be great.

tbh tho, Ingress has always been different compared to other Niantic Communities where we move from place to place even if the tools were provided: Google Plus -> Slack --> Telegram/Discord, couldn't see niantic do it.

I would love a real time intel map on campfire when an event is on just for those playboxes.

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

No, Intel should not be ported to Campfire!

Beacons on the other hand make a great fit for showing up on Campfire.

I haven't made a decision whether Battle Beacons should appear on Campfire. My feeling on this is that they shouldn't appear on Campfire

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

I did make the suggestion about having the scoreboard in the app show Battle Beacon Victories

However, I am curious whether the Ingress map in Campfire would benefit with showing the current regional score in a simplified way.

I maybe also one of a tiny group that, wouldn't mind seeing the regional score of Battle Beacon Victories as well.

What Campfire does need is to show in chats which faction you are currently on. This really is a critical feature.

  • tp235tp235 ✭✭✭✭

Right now it can only be used for event announcements.

Well, once a permanent link that can be viewed in a PC browser is released, the chat room may become a little more usable, but as it stands, it is nothing more than a place for players to spread friend code spam in a game where most players are in violation of the ToS.

  • EvilSuperHerosEvilSuperHeros ✭✭✭✭✭

Campfire is complete ****. Stop wasting dev time on it. No one uses it except for pogo users who spam their invite code or whatever it is all over the place.

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

You know it is not the same dev team as Ingress?

I agree that the Pokémon GO spam is annoying, so maybe your suggestion is better ways to filter that out and show more clearly the game that the chat is for?

  • tp235tp235 ✭✭✭✭

I'm sure you understand, but at this point Campfire is "only available on smartphones." "There is no search function by person or word." "There is no translation on the application." Therefore, it is not useful for Ingress.

And it has not been used much in PGO, which was expected to be the main.

It could be used to announce First Saturday, Mission Day, NL1331, and other informal meetups.

But the reality is that since no one sees Campfire, its effectiveness is far less than X (Twitter), and COMM is much more effective.

  • tp235tp235 ✭✭✭✭

    @PkmnTrainerJ

I would add one more thing: If Ingress eliminates Intel Maps and switches to Campfire, one of the major attractions of Ingress, the massive operation to create a huge CF, will not be feasible, and the world's largest group sports competition where hundreds or thousands of people attack each other in an organized manner Anomaly battles will degenerate in competitiveness to stone age fights.

This would greatly diminish the appeal of Ingress, and the Ingress team would not be happy about it.

Also, this is not a problem for Ingress and is one reason for many ghost accounts, but when they switch to Campfire for Intel maps, PGO and Wayfarer will be in more trouble than Ingress agents.

I think PGO and Wayfarer should each create their own, but they rely heavily on the Ingress Intel Maps infrastructure.

Because the information that PGO trainers are placing PINs on their maps is based on Intel Maps information.

The original information that Wayfinder uses to count the number of blank S2-Cells and Pokéstops is Intel Maps.

And while you may conveniently change your position to say that you are an Ingress agent and therefore have no problem using it, you, as Wayfinder, are also heavily dependent on the Intel Maps infrastructure.

I don't believe you created this thread with these things in mind in depth, nor do you have any responsibility as OP.

So we will not need to discuss this topic in the Ingress forum.

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

I think you misunderstand how I use Wayfarer @tp235

And while you may conveniently change your position to say that you are an Ingress agent and therefore have no problem using it, you, as Wayfinder, are also heavily dependent on the Intel Maps infrastructure.

I do not care for cells, or distance etc. when nominating. I just nominate something eligible and interesting. If it goes in to one of the games, cool, but I’m not a person who will nominate something where it isn’t just to get a Portal or PokéStop.

I also don’t think Intel Map would go even if some things got added to Campfire.

Campfire is accessible via the Ingress app, so it makes sense to discuss it here to me.

I just don’t get your whole vendetta thing overall, but whatever makes you happy I guess?

  • tp235tp235 ✭✭✭✭

Most of the Wayfinders in that forum, including the Ambassadors, actually care about S2-Cells.

    It's an undeniable fact.

I still remember Ambassador Wayfinders talking about it, and most of the Ingress agents there are just Pokémon GO trainers.

So, you're in the minority if you claim not to care about it.

Also, in reality, most agents aren't using Campfire.

And if asked if they'd communicate on Campfire in the future, no one would.

Most agents communicate through Telegram, Discord, or Slack, and in the past, they used Google Hangouts and Google Plus.

So, at this point, it only serves as a gateway to existing instant messengers.

Therefore, there's no benefit in moving things to a map that isn't being used.

Instead, upgrading various notifications displayed on Intel Maps to be compatible with Prime Scanner and utilizing COMM would be more beneficial.

COMM is a communication tool completely integrated with the scanner, unlike Campfire.

Therefore, it is better to suggest to the Campfire administrator than to wait for a response here.

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

Though I don’t agree with all your points, it at least makes more sense now, thanks for explaining

    As for

Therefore, it is better to suggest to the Campfire administrator than to wait for a response here.

There are a few calls from the Campfire team for feedback, so rather than just my own view, if I attend one, my aim was to capture the view of the Ingress Community overall when the next such case arises. Thus, best to use the Ingress Community Forums I thought.

    On

So, you're in the minority if you claim not to care about it.

Definitely but I don’t feel that will change. Here’s one example of a zoo that I trot out from time to time. I have no idea what’s in Ingress, what’s in Pokémon GO etc.

We have got off track of the original purpose of the thread however.

So if others have feedback about Ingress using Campfire, please do share.

  • EvilSuperHerosEvilSuperHeros ✭✭✭✭✭

Why can't the Campfire team come here and ask us? Hmm? Probably run by one person who also has 3 other jobs at Niantic.

As to your Zoo image, you say you never open Ingress or Pogo when you are at the Zoo? That seems odd. I guess your loss. I know what's in my Zoo locally in Ingress, as that's what I play. I go sometimes to enjoy the Zoo, or sometimes to enjoy the portals or even sometimes to enjoy both. Then again my Zoo is 100% free to enter. Free to park if you don't mind walking a few blocks over to the Zoo.

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

I didn’t say I don’t open it, of course I do. I said that I didn’t care for cells or distance when submitting.

I have no idea what’s in Ingress/Pokémon GO as I haven’t revisited since these all got added. I could check one of my keys though to know for Ingress.

That may not have been clear in what I said before, so hopefully that clarifies

  • PkmnTrainerJPkmnTrainerJ ✭✭✭✭✭

And yes, very likely to your comment about Campfire team. Who knows how many hats the team are wearing now with the layoffs etc.

  • joecainjoecain ✭✭✭✭✭

Are there ingress devs anymore? I think it's all interns. Prove me wrong.

  • tp235tp235 ✭✭✭✭

The last map is not from Campfire, but from the Wayfarer application.

Posting maps from different applications will only confuse everyone.

In Campfire, Ingress has not deployed a portal and the map only lists the community.

I think this is fine, it would be a good help for new people to get involved in events if we could post official and unofficial event announcements and notifications.

But I would add, incidentally, to what you have suggested in other threads, that cross-game meetup events are. I will continue to be impossible because of the completely different morale levels of the players.

Most AGs in the Ingress community do not want to socialize with people with many alternative accounts lined up.

And because we don't like players with that kind of morals logging into Ingress.

We prefer football in Ingress, not Vale Tudo.

Of course, you and English people in the real world know best that the "Hand of God" is strictly forbidden there.

And when you want to see what portals are on the Ingress map, Intel Maps will get you there.

With Dynamic Link, you can also see what is happening on the scanner.

The Wayfarer application is soon to be discontinued as it was used for reasons other than the original purpose of creating location AR. If you want to see all the wayspots in the future, you can access Niantic Lightship from your browser.

As a side note, I don't know why there is no Pokestop Intel map, but it would be even better if you could request Campfire to add Pokestops on the map and Pokemon gyms.

Perhaps this will almost fulfill your wish.

By the way, PGO cannot generate dynamic links at this time, probably because of the remote raid.

If you could check a distant Pokemon gym with a dynamic link, like in Ingress, you could potentially have a raid battle by throwing a remote raid pass.

Upcoming Battle Beacons, First Saturdays, Mission Days, Anomalies.

Expand on the Bounties system, make it so only certain portals will "drop" special bounties.

(Upcoming BB's and hypothetical bounties appearing on Intel should also occur)
