I’ll admit, I’m still wrapping my head around the effects of the location-based scoring system, but the point still stands that if you don’t think your team will be able to win checkpoints on a given beacon, competing for that beacon at all can hurt your team, as a higher CAT victory for your opponent will give them a higher share of the points for that location.
It’s slightly better than the straight scoring of Kureze, but still needlessly reduces motivation and provides additional strategic barriers for teams that are already facing the challenge of being outnumbered in a given location.
If there's no competition, it's hard to get any of the higher CAT levels. If you were outnumbered, not playing would effectively deny the other faction from being able to acquire more points.
Also, I don't understand why they are providing a weighted scoring system - it's the same scoring system as Kureze except a percentage will be applied. Regardless of how it will be displayed in the end, it's confusion either way.
Hi Agent Thia, Hi Agent Brian and Hi Niantic Official,
I support the request of agent DrocteurHache, please agent Thia and agent Brian, can you accept this simple request to activate some portals for phase 1 of KYTHERA on the island of Reunion (island location: -21.011478, 55.272120) and at the same time that we are recognized as active ingress players...We fight together to show our dedication to Ingress, a game that connected us despite the intra-island distances. We no longer want to be forgotten. We want to feel the same gaming experiences as an agent from a big country. Please don't forget us again.
Anomalies have historically been scheduled on Saturdays. Trying a new day is a decent experiment, but picking a day that’s a holiday celebrated by a sizable portion of the world’s population could have been thought through more.
Please consider rescheduling on a different weekend or at least a different day.
Portioning score by location does limit the effect of the weighting. A large victory in a given location under Kythera can only yield a max of 13 points, whereas under Kureze, a location’s total score could vary widely and directly based on number of beacons and the CAT of victories. The Kythera system is more balanced, but I’m not sure what behavior the score-weighting by CAT is intended to encourage? It’s nice to win a hard-fought battle, but the straight points you’d get from winning seem motivating enough?
Since people seem to struggle understanding the new scoring given the disagrees on my last post, here is an example, lets assume different scenarios in Location (City) A
1) One faction doesn't show up and the other faction wins all beacons, but with a low score of 1000 : 0 due to low CAT, but since they win 100% of all beacons the faction gets the maximum of 13 points for location A.
2) Both factions fight a fierce battle with a result of 30000 : 10000 (higher CAT, higher total score). The 13 points for location A will be distributed to the factions as 9.75 : 3.25 towards the total score.
With Kureze scoring the winning faction would have gotten 1000 points from the first scenario but 20000 points difference from the second scenario making not playing the best strategy for the underdog.
With Kythera scoring the losing faction reduces the gain of the winning faction from 13 points in the first scenario to 6.5 points difference in the second scenario, so even losing pays off towards the total score.
For within a location the CATs are still relevant, but players can move between battles and take advantage of the system with possible strategies being to win as many battles as possible or concentrate on winning fewer but high CAT battles.
Also for the total global score, NIA placed beacons will contribute a total of 100 * 13 = 1300 and player placed beacons a total of 260 points.
This really should be a no-brainer for Niantic to change the date to Saturday or another weekend. It honestly wouldn't even bother me if they outright canceled it. Monthly anomalies are too much, it should be once per quarter.
I'd like a clarification about part of the ruleset:
Under the Scoring header, it says "For each phase, each of the 100 locations targeted worths a total of 13 points" implying there will be 100 targeted location for all phases
Later on: "In Kythera Phase 2 and 3, 10 target locations will be picked from all applications received via this form: https://forms.gle/id3vFqXQ1MuEj95E8. Each of these 10 locations will be worth 26 points"
My question: Does that mean for phase 2 and 3 there are 110 sites with 10 from the applications worth extra points? Or was the "for each phase" in the first quote a typo?
I personally think the re release of these old badges on the cheap is a slap in the face for those of us who had to work HARD to gain the badges in the first place
Not happy, editing my Google review.
And way too many badges are being released in too short a time frame.
Yeah it's kinda ironic, the word is Greek, and to make it look "Greek" it would make more sense to just write it as is, Κύθηρα, and do not butcher it with S and L substitutions..
The team has discussed and it has been decided that for multiple reasons, the NIA deployed RBBs will remain as scheduled for Sunday, 17 April from 1430 - 1730 local time.
We are aware that not all of us celebrate the same holidays or recognize the same days of rest, and that is why the current quarterly Anomaly events are being designed in a way that it is OK to miss a month (or even two) and still participate. We are also being conscious to take into consideration in-game events that take place in other Niantic games.
Additionally, we are for the time being going to continue to give shorter notice than pre-2020 live events as we do not want to encourage traveling yet. I know many want to travel (and do) and we’re hoping to be able to provide details at least 2 weeks in advance. I’m unsure when we’ll get back to more lead-time but we definitely want to move towards that direction.
Definitely an interesting move considering it's one of the most celebrated holidays in the world. Definitely feels like everyone missed that this was on Easter and then in typical Niantic fashion, they can't admit they overlooked it.
We don't wanna give you TOO much notice, but also, changing the day to something that's easier for basically everyone, wouldn't make sense either....
Am I the only one who thinks medal should be earned not given. For the long term players, we had to fight for every medal tier 24/7. Those medals mean nothing if not earned aka put work in it. Nia stop being oprah, you get a medal, you get a medal and you also get a medal.
And on top of this poor decision on Easter weekend with all the family obligations happening in the afternoon no one is able to go an fight(read deploy and wait) let alone convince the family it is needed.
I really need this of my chest after 9 years of daily play. You decided that control fields are no longer controlfields. They no longer control the area we controlled with these control fields. What are they now called. Just fields? Why should I make them? As making them had an effect (we controlled that area and controlled what happened in those areas) no opposition to level and that was what the main task was fight the aliens.
Maybe next to linking under fields, let me blue link also on green portals?
With these changes do not think I'll make it to year ten. And we really wanted to. Not just for the medal.
But on the other hand I don't have to, as the aliens won because of you Nia, you gave a warm welcome to earth, mind control every one and do as you will.. You stripped the Resistance of their basic essence.

I honestly prefer Sundays for these events over Saturdays, but choosing Easter Sunday was a pretty bad pick, especially if you want participants.

With all due respect… these events aren’t anomalies. To borrow a phrase from one of my locals, it’s Anomaly-Lite, at best.

I’d like to see the event moved to Saturday. I won’t be available to play Sunday.
I keep thinking: “Call of Kythsrl”
Hi thia, any chance to add Kureze Effect banner on your Researcher Archive?
Yes I can’t make it Sunday but I’m down for Saturday. I’m not religious but my huge family is. Easter Sunday is a gathering day for us
I’m all for it being moved to the 4th weekend of the month
Niantic do your research on your target audience smh the 17th is a horrible idea
Also, in the future, please announce locations at least one month in advance.
In the US at least, last-minute announcements disproportionately affects those of us living in poor rural areas.
And while I do not celebrate Easter, it does not help that the event falls on Easter, which means flight prices are very very high.
@NianticThia @NianticOfficial @NianticBrian
Multiple people and communities asks you to AT LEAST change the date to Saturday 16th, we made a local vote and a lot more people would participate.
Try to communicate with your ACTIVE player base about this issue. More than half of locations is in countries which celebrates Easter on 17th.

Cheapens the whole thing.
Question regarding the Mission banners.
Will communities that won't be an event location in the series be able to submit the mission banners as a way to participate?
Will there be any further info or requirements that need to be met for those missions to be approved?
Much Appreciated
what happened to team red?
They donate blood, and that's all.

On that same level of thought, why was the Comic Sans event duration changed?
Just make it Saturday. How stupidly easy is that? Sundays, regardless are horrible days for the majority of your players that have families.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT MAKING IT SATURDAY. stop being pathetic Niantic. You were starting to do better.

Pregunta, los Beacon De Batalla desplegados por agentes cuentan para la medalla?
