This is great ! I'll have some fun doing these, and of course I'll be waiting for original MD when the time is right.
I have to laugh at agents saying this will devalue the MD badge. First, giving people stuff won't take it away from you. Second, at this point you're a veteran, you know it's not about the medal but it's about the journey - nobody can devalue your journey.
The mission lines of 6 misison medals. This event should not work with previously done missions, because the agent will just redo the closest/easiest mission avaiable every month...
I've been lucky enough to be part of one Mission Day, and much as I want to increment that badge, I think it would be better to have a different one for Second Sunday, as I'd like to see the incentive remain to go to the big Mission Days. Our local city group were well under way on planning a Mission Day for last year before the world changed.
A lot of people do missions in sequence, like banner missions, to form pictures in their agent profile. Redoing a mission moves the mission's image to the most recently-completed spot, which messes up the larger mosaic that had been created unless the agent redoes all of the related missions as well to maintain the appearance on their profile.
As well, some agents like their completed missions staying in the order they are as representative of their history in the game and when they were where, etc.
Sounds like it. For July any 6 missions count. For Aug and Sep, the 6 have to be one of the official Mission Day missions created by the NIA accounts listed in the post, whether or not they're old or new or if you've completed them previously.
We were initially informed that Mission Sundays was going to be an entirely separate thing, from Mission days.
While I appreciate to keeping it to any 6 missions for July, I was under the impression that the following months would require creating new UNIQUE Missions for Sundays, is this not going to happen?
The OP suggests that Sunday as in August and September requires doing only the Mission Day Missions, if a city already has them. What about cities that do jot have Mission Day Missions?
I really dislike the mentality that this cheapens peoples accomplishments and the work they did to attend mission days in the past. The accomplishments still happened and should be remembered by those individuals. Just because it was more difficult at one point doesn't mean it always needs to remain overly difficult and making mission days more approachable doesn't remove the hard work that was put in by players to get to and attend mission days in the past.
A side note to that is the idea of adding another badge for this Second Saturday styled event which would just bloat the badge pool more with additional ridiculously tiered badges that generally are never actually fully achievable, such as Intel Ops, OCF, OPR Live, the Van badge, etc. I think having options for obtaining badge credit on a somewhat regular basis that isn't tied directly to event RNG is generally a beneficial thing for everyone and to those that have worked hard to get onyx there is still multiples of wings to work towards as well.
I doubt that if i am able to finish 2 official missions by Nia ( 6 of each it will be 12 badges of them) . The question is will i get 2 counts in August event?
I don't like the idea of doing old mission day missions again, as they will move away from their place in my mission profile. And if I look at Brian's map there are areas with no NIA missions in thousands of kilometers like eastern Russia. Maybe allow players to submit a set of missions for August/September which would then count in the same way as old NIA missions? Or, to make things easier for Niantic to review, just submit a link to a bannergress banner which could then be recognized as a valid set of MD missions? Example: https://bannergress.com/banner/sushi-sonntag-781c was created by Cologne agents with Second Sunday in mind.
What about places with low portal density and travel restrictions?
There are places with low mission count because of portal density and if those places have travel restrictions, completing 6 missions will be difficult.
Would it be possible for POCs to submit special official Second Sunday missions for August and September for key cities? Some have no official Mission Days held in their cities and with some boundaries closed, it will be difficult for them to participate.
At least in Europe the dispensation did not go away. As a long term co-TL of Anomaly disability groups, I spoke with Anne at Amsterdam Anomaly 2019 about it. She told it is fine for disabled players, plus their carers, to do a minimum of 1 MD Mission. This dispensation continued up to and including Lille Misson Day in end of February 2020.
The biggest issue with Mission Days for disabled players was doing the Anomaly or Hexathlon and then trying to do 6 Missions the following day as well (especially as many European events have been centred at historic old towns with cobbled streets, many staircases and restricted car access, with few people arriving by car anyway).
So hopefully disabled players will manage six Missions when they are not exhausted from the previous day, which was the main issue.
I was only seeking clarification, since the dispensation was in place in Europe up to and including the last MD before Covid lockdown. @NianticBrian
We now have a partial list of 10,000+ Mission Day missions with direct links to the missions on Intel Map, viewable via a custom Google map here. There may be even more Mission Day missions, but I think I was running into some limitations with Google My Maps and will need to investigate further. Updated the original post to reflect this.
So, by "unique missions" I understand that also applies to missions that were done before, but not completing the same missions more than one time at the same event. I'm right?
Also, the "NIA" filter from the game doesn't seems to be working. Is not able to find the only set of MD missions we have on my city (by MDNIA2).
This is AWESOME!!! Good to see Niantic creating new ways to play in this era of Covid. The rest of the world is still battling it and may not be able to open up fully at least until the end of 2022. So kudos for thinking of us too when creating events.
Also hope the team knows that not everyone wants another different badge for this event. Some of us a pretty happy with the event giving +1 for the existing MD badge.
The problem with this is that creating a new medal is a long-term commitment and this current format looks to be temporary until normal Mission Days can return. An unintended consequence of asking for a new medal could be that, if granted, we'd never see a normal MD again as the focus shifts toward working on a new medal that is built on a new format. More likely though, the new medal you're proposing would be abandoned as soon as we can have normal MDs again that increment the old medal, probably leaving many stuck with bronze or silver of the new medal you're proposing.
I'm happy with the current format for now, though I admit, that is because I have multiple options within reasonable distance. I hope something can be done for those who live in MD Mission deserts.

Second Sunday is not a replacement of Mission Day and was created in mind to make Missions more approachable without the need to travel.
How does that work when the nearest existing MD mission is 64 miles away?...

what are scanner lines?
I spossibile to see NIA mission also from Desktop intel site? It Would be very useful.

@NianticThia please clarify this.

Correct.
Sounds like they're working on putting something together. https://twitter.com/brianrose/status/1411092097789153280?s=20
Maybe they meant to with the announcement, but it wasn't done in time. 🤷♂️
We're working to put a map of Mission Day missions together but noticed that some info may not be 100% complete. Here's a work-in-progress screenshot:

That's a viable day trip, come back when it's at least a couple hundred miles.
I know where the portals is!!! Surrounded the whole location!!!
And yes, I'm ready to see it first!!

I agree with this also, maybe make a different medal for this rather than adding to the usual MD Medal.
Haven't you considered that people will just redo the easiest/closest every month just to improve the badge?
I suggest to change this and only awards if new missions are done in the time window.
What about the places that had mission days and the missions were deleted later? Will the missions be put back only for August?

This is cool. Thank you for adding mini and new events to Ingress. It helps to demonstrate to players that Niantic is still invested in the game.

As an interim solution in the time of Covid this works.
It's not perfect in some ways - but nothing is.
Thanks Niantic for starting to bring stuff back.
