Congratulations to all! Good to see some frequent forum-goers given a worthy accolade of their support and love of Ingress.
Quick question; the Call for Ambassadors, required that "Agents must be active in the Ingress Forum" (or as the very first sentence says "The XM Ambassadors (XMAs) are Ingress Agents who are active participants in the Ingress Forum."), but we can see in their profiles that 19 have visited less than 100 times with two only visiting once (both of which also signed up to the forums less than a month ago). On top of that 31 of the 45 have less than 100 forum points (so they are only Level 2). Was the forum activity prerequisite actually looked at?
Might be worth doing a review in some time since another requirement is for "Continued participation in the public Ingress Forum."
Conversely, hopefully this might make the people that aren't active on the forums active now so that could be a win-win :P
A good point. Actually, one of the big issues for Ingress community is language barrier. So far the forum is English-based, and for quite a number of countries this isn't a language of first choice, so many agents are shy to participate in the official forum while they happily communicate on other platforms (such as Telegram) using their own language. I believe we can find a way to promote more global communication (possibly with the means of in-built translator engines or with the help of fellow agents who speak several languages). Covid pandemic actually helped make Ingress more global so to speak, as agents got a unique opportunity to visit other cities way out of their familiar playgrounds: they've learnt to use translator-bots in Telegram, Google translate and other means. So, hope to see it all also coming here. Cheers!
My assumption is that diversity between languages and levels were needed. 'Continued participation in the public Ingress Forum' is a specification, maybe that's enough for what's to come, not what it was.
I am one of the XM Ambassors and I think I am one some area's inactive :) I almost forgot that is was FS today, so I had to find another FS@home to get my +1.
I am here to test things and if you can play if you have unique playstyle.
I know of a few players who would have made good candidates but when asked about it in regional chats said, "No, I'm not very active in the forums."
I guess the job involves other things than we were expecting. It should be interesting to see how it develops! I heartily congratulate the new XM Ambassadors, and hope that they are able to live up to their roles and increase community engagement.
From other chats, there are multiple agents who were selected that aren't active or haven't been for months in the actual game. Saw it in an xfac chat as well as a faction chat. One even looks kinda like a backpack account based on their AP/Badges.
But I'm sure that Niantic did as much vetting for the XM Ambassadors as they do when the check spoofing reports. So based on that, everyone in chosen should be golden!
I'm not sure how you can tell if they've been active lately or not. Not all actions are done in scanner, but yes, I'm hoping all XMAs play the beta and give feedback. As for rumors in chats....that's going to happen no matter who was picked. They talk too much, they don't talk enough.... it's kind of like goldilocks I guess?
AFAIK, no one chosen knows how any of the criteria were weighted.
First of all, congratulations to the chosen XM Ambassadors.
I have created a similar sheet as the screenshot Oscar shared, and it shows the same concerns regarding the requirement of forum activity versus the actual forum activity of the chosen XM Ambassadors. When using forum 'joined'-date about half have less than one forum post per month.
I'm curious to know to what extend the forum requirement was used in the selection, and I'm hopeful that each of the select XM Ambassadors will do their best to resonate the players voices to Niantic..
Being engaged in Forums or being firmly engaged in your local community?
Writing in chats with others or meeting the other players of your community and organising meet ups / operations and help players in your local community?
Would be nice to read about what the community thinks 🤔?
"Community" can mean many different things. I think that everything you mentioned has its time and place, and I would hesitate to say that any one of those things is categorically "better" or "brings more" than another.
I wholly think that being engaged in the local community is more helpful overall than forum activity. I think this topic is continually being brought up because of the emphasis Niantic put on forum activity in the "Call for Applicants" so several agents tailored their applications to that regard and weren't selected in lieu of agents with little-to-no forum activity. If Niantic simply asked for applicants that were engaged in their own local/regional community, this would be a non-issue. I know agents that were hesitant to (or didn't) apply because of their lack of activity on the forums even though they are active in their local/regional communities.
Thanks everyone for welcoming the XMAs. The group has been bonding over the weekend in the forum and on TG and you will see more of them in the upcoming weeks.
To address questions on the eligibility, the forum participation is one of the things we considered. We've made an exception for some cases where the overall application was strong and they have been active in their community. Apart from diversity in levels and locations, this group speaks 24 languages and we are looking forward to their feedback to make this community and Ingress better.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ping me on TG (Suivezmoi) or I can DM you here.
I take it you aren't in many or any global chats? Other agents in areas where multiple xma's are from have noted that several of them aren't very active in the game or on the forums (as has been posted (despite what Niantic claimed the application requirements they did the norm and didn't follow their own requirements but no real surprise there)).
The one account that seemed suspicious no longer has the xma flair on it. Sooo... Hmm...guess something was wrong with it after all. Unless you have the hot scoop on it?
I guess you are going to have to pick up your gaming and get beta testing soon. Your state is 100% open! (I understand how to ask questions in chats and use the rolladex... Do you?)
Comments
Thanks.
Cheers everyone. :)
How do you private message though?
Thats a great question lol! I thought she'd posted her tg in the original announcement. But I don't see it... I'll see if I can find that out.
Her TG is @Suivezmoi, although I'm sure you could just ping her here on the forums as well :D
Where is my hermanos brasileños?
wow came as a surprise. I wasn’t counting on getting chosen
Congratulations all!
Congratulations!
5 more to come?
Congratulations! Agents! Good luck everyone!🎉

So 3 joined just because the application and one didn't even post anything since. Wasn't link to one discussion one of the requirements in the form?🤔

>Requirements: active forum participation
>A couple chosen XMAs have zero comments, a few others have 1-2 forum visits.
Niantic doesn't play by their own rules, nothing new... sad

I have made way too many comments...
I've not made enough... Based on my visits 😉

Congrats, and now go squash some bugs!

No, I think it's shaper math, and shapers use base 9 :)

Hello,
What does bring more to the community:
Being engaged in Forums or being firmly engaged in your local community?
Writing in chats with others or meeting the other players of your community and organising meet ups / operations and help players in your local community?
Would be nice to read about what the community thinks 🤔?
Cheers

Thank you for your sharing Toxoplasmolly and MonkeyPelt
If anyone needs more XMA input I can redouble my activity on the forums 😊

what is a rolladex?
