That was never a feature sadly. Only if it's the exact same kit that goes on sale again does the store check if you have already bought it, but if it is part of a larger kit, it doesn't check if you already got the badge
Previous badgers that were on sale again I didn't see in the store. This one I did, and I snagged it before I lunch today. Then I checked the forums. Ooops
Yea because Niantic reuses the exact same "configuration file" (for lack of better word) for a resale if they can. The toast badge was previously only sold alone, and because Niantic wanted to add items to the kit this time they needed a new configuration, hence a "new" sale and the scanner not knowing you already got the badge
It really should check beforehand if you already have the badge and prompt you with a warning, same with a badge via code
Oh you should absolutely open a support ticket and ask for your CMU back, Niantic has refunded errors like these in the past. Probably just need to annoy them a bit

So we should just call it an expensive mistake and move on? Or should Ingress maybe "do better"?
