Ingress 2.63.1 Release Notes
What’s New
• We updated what's counted as a unique Portal visit to include the following actions taken at a Portal: hack, deploy or upgrade a Resonator, deploy a Portal Mod, create a Link, deploy a Beacon or Firework, locally recharge the Portal, successfully upload a Portal Scan, and successfully submit a Portal or Portal photo. (Like before, remote recharge and Drone actions do not count as a unique Portal visit.)
Bug Fixes
• Fixed: We identified and resolved our top crash on Android phones.
• Fixed: The Android Back button will dismiss confirmation prompts.
• Fixed: Added missing Korean and Norwegian translations.
Note that we skipped over the 2.62.1 release because of the holidays, and have bumped the version number to 2.63.1, which is beginning to roll out now.

So we're finally seeing work done on allowing Uniques to be stored and retrieved? 🤔🤗
Does this means we are going to have the non hacked portal mark somewhere on the portal details any time soon?
Subscriptions better be enabled this patch, I wanna throw some juicy sustainability at you if you know what I mean :)
Portal discoveries have been counting as visits for a month or so. Was that ever officially announced?
"...successfully submit a Portal or Portal photo..."
If only this were made retroactive -- I haven't been back to a great many portals since first submitting them! @NianticBrian
Very wishful thinking.
@NianticBrian bringing back the XM pulse sweep audio and visual effect?
Awesome💙
How come submitting a photo/portal counts as visiting it? You can do that from a certain distance using someone else's photo.
I think not but just for clarification: adding a photo remotely count as unique visit?
What's the best temperature to set my oven to when cooking a lasagne?
so long i was hoping for a comm fix finally... guess we have to wait more.....
I so hope unique unvisited portals will have an ornament in the scanner soon! Or Visa-versa showing what you have visited already.
Another for Unique captures too!
I agree with you!
And I'm sick of new portals created by printscreen from Street view. Non-real submissions.
Those get rejected (or should).
And photos are supposed to be rejected if the photo is from too far away or not of the portal, or not the submitter's photo.
Seems to me for the past nine years, visiting a portal was not actually enough :D I don't think anything changed in that regard, they just fixed what was missing.
Seems like a very minor release to me, I for one really would like see a few fixes:

You don't think it's a coincidence that we have a big push from the player base to get Uniques, a Dev actually discussing the issues, and now they just 'happen' to make adjustments to the Uniques server code that adds more "within 40 meters" triggers?
This stuff hasn't been touched for 8 years. A full redesign of the storage would allow them to roll in extra triggers in the same block of dev work.
I take it as a "good sign" 😄
And I am more pessimistic in turn. I don't know why everyone's decided that some kind of uniques display is coming. We just discussed it and..that's it...
Niantic has NEVER cared about the players... I spent a LOT of money when I started just for it to get redundant.... We FINALLY get an update!!! And it includes fireworks, I'm gonna wave my little sparkler and keep expecting more from a company that's made so much from people...
Niantic never learns that they have to tell us what else unreleased work they're doing, give developer updates / insights and build up / keep hype... The patch notes don't add up to A MONTH of work. The "what's new" with uniques change was done in december I believe and it doesn't correspond to the actual work done during the last month; besides, it was purely backend job, so a couple fixes and prompt dismiss for frontend is not a month of work at all.
Why do you keep us from knowing there's something good in development? Why do you keep making people think that there's nothing else added besides what's in the patch notes and having them disappointed in development speed? Look at that dude above - that's the result of such politics of closed doors.
You mean the epilepsy inducing pulses?
Ingress has sound? Wow I forgot
Just about every video game can induce epileptic seizures, so not a valid reason to keep the effect removed.
When Niantic keeps referring to the game app as "Scanner" without the appropriate effects, it changes the game lore in a very significant way.
It's the same as saying, "hey let's do active Sonar, but without sound". But that is exactly what Niantic is saying.
And it bothers me all the time I play.
I do have a friend who has epilepsy, and knows what video games they can, and cannot play.
I agree, how about build up hype for upcoming subscription and more kinetics etc.... if this isnt coming i can understand they are quiet but buildin up hype makes players more excited knowing about upcoming features.... and now another event with no badge.. go figure....
Ingress isn't a game with a lot of "Spend a lot of money for advantage" options, so I'm not sure what you spent it on. And fireworks have been in the game for a long time. This update's changes are actually significant for quite a few people. Crashing on Android has been an ongoing problem, and expanding the language options to Korean provides a large number of players with the ability to play the game in their native language. The Uniques changes are significant both in what's now allowed, and in what they suggest, and something the player base is almost unanimously behind.
I would also refrain from the cursing and abuse. We're all here because whatever it's flaws, we love playing Ingress. If you don't like it, there are plenty of other games like Pokemon Go or Orna, that might be preferable that you can try, but there's no reason to abuse people for enjoying Ingress.
Bugfixing is always good, but:
༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give ingame language selection
༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give Image caching
The first is a QoL update, the second is a data cap/loading times update
If you are looking at ingame language selection, it would be good to feed this into the information sent to Wayfarer when submitting portals, a way to filter out languages a reviewer doesn't understand would be a big improvement to Wayfarer.
Except that some people prefer to play Ingress in English while reviewing stuff in their native tongue.
If Wayfarer is going to limit what languages the reviewer encounters... Wayfarer is a website with a page of settings. Don't shove it into Ingress unnecessarily.
That's not what I'm suggesting. At the moment the Wayfarer does not know what language submissions are in. This information could be gathered if in-game language settings are added to Ingress.
