I thought Scout Controller expired after 30 days

in General
This was the first portal I scanned after the medal was announced but it is still showing I control it with one point? If my point is expired it should either take my name off or show zero points, otherwise the next agent to come along will think they need to scan it twice to control it instead of only once.

From the release notes:
The number of Scout Points on the Portal details screen is updated when a new Portal Scan of the Target Portal is successfully uploaded. Once Scout Controller has been claimed on a Portal, currently this title isn't automatically removed after 30 days. However, another Agent can still claim Scout Controller with a single Portal Scan if there were no Portal Scans uploaded over the last 30 days.
So once you claim controller, it stays there forever until somebody else scans it or usurps your controller status.
It's nice if there are no other players going for Scout Controller, that way you know what you've already scanned. You can even use it as a unique hack/capture indicator too!
Alternatively, given the ridiculous tiers for Scout Controller (even the amended 12k for Onyx), it would be more favourable to players if the Scout Controller status disappeared after 30 days, which would allow the same player to then re-scan those portals to gain another Scout Controller point for those portals. This still favours 200 unique scans a fortnight, but makes the ridiculous tiers actually achievable. And will probably get more players involved in scanning to work towards the badges.
After all, Niantic want multiple scans of the same portal anyway. If people are only doing 5 second scans, the data is mostly useless, but if they do many 5 second scans of the same portal, the data could be useful.
Thanks, it would be nice if it showed "0" points once the thirty days were up, that way an agent would know if they needed 1 or 2 scans to usurp control. Many of us wait until we get home on wifi before uploading our scans, so it would be nice to know sooner than that if one was enough.
Also, has anyone figured out yet if you get scout controller if the current controller's scan expires after thirty days and one made in the meantime during that thirty days becomes the most recent scan?
That's how i thought it would work. After 30 days the scout control get's a reset... for me that means i can gain scout control again, but i guess they are trying to prefent that with leaving the control/text on it.
if you scan the same thing after 30 days, the number just goes up by 1. So if you scanned it twice 30 days ago, then scan it another two times 31 days later, it will show as 4 scout controller points.
It should revert back to zero point to let future scanners know how many scans they need to do. Are supposed to guess or keep tracking of how many days passed since that agents scanned that area?
This badge is just getting worse and harder. If there is 5 points there we will be blind and clueless about how many scans to get an unique controller.
So after another month if I decide to scan it, should I do 5 scans or just one?
Agreed, it should definitely reset after 30 days. There's no way in-game to know how long ago something was scanned, so you would have to track your actions (and probably other people's scanning actions too!) to get a good idea of when you can reclaim scout controller.
Just one, then your total for that portal will be 5.
Unless somebody else scanned it, then you'll need to +1 their number of scans to reclaim controller.
The badge is stupid in so many wyas, not just the ridiculous tiers, but in the way it works too.
so it wont reset unless someone else scans and takes it away from u right?
I meant if someone else that want a new unique controller, see a portal with xagent 5 points from a year ago (but he is clueless about it) it will require 1 or 5 scans?
If it's after 30 days, it should only take one. But I haven't tested this yet lol
In this scenario it shows that it would be ideal for the counter to reset
@NianticBrian can we get some confusion cleared up here?
Right now, the Scout Controller designation is given to the Agent with the most number of Portal Scans on a Portal over the last 30 days. This title is not automatically removed after 30 days, and checks/updates the next time a Portal Scan is successfully uploaded.
For example, if Player1 made 1 Portal Scan to claim Scout Controller 40 days ago, and Player2 does 1 Portal Scan on that Portal today, Player 2 is now Scout Controller with 1 Scout Point.
We originally launched this way to avoid pinging each Portal to refresh its Scout Controller status, but we're discussing ways to make this easier to understand. For example, one option may be to show the last Portal Scan date so Player2 knows that doing 1 Portal Scan will claim Scout Controller.
Thank you. It would definitely be helpful to know how many scans it takes to earn scout controller if the agent plans on uploading their scans later at home on wifi.
Also, if someone scans the portal for 1 point less than thirty days after the previous controller, will they automatically take scout controller once the original scan expires?
If the last scan was done over 30 days ago and I scan the portal and am now controller of that portal does the other agent still get a notification that they are no longer the scout controller of that portal. The reason I ask this is, my local Enl agent has initially scanned the portals and I don’t want them to get the notification that I am the new controller and know where I am.
Yes, they still do receive a notification if they lose the Scout Controller status on a portal.
