How do you stop Recursion?

We had a short discussion on Essex Telegram/Hangouts channel about this. One pretty plausible methodology that could be employed is the use of RPE technology to block the XM signal of a sharded being. The mechanism isn't completely worked out, but basically the signal back to the recursion machine is being blocked or redirected or scattered, leaving the person in shards in the XM network itself. It remains to be seen if such a sharded being could be recursed if the blocking signal or mechanism were removed.

If this were to work, it could help Hank Johnson Prime, who was recently sharded, but outside of the Abaddon anomaly series. Would a sharded being have enough cohesion in the XM ultimate to be able to try and recurse?

How did 1218 Hank stop his recursion? could the same method be used? Is he the only one that we know has stopped the recursion cycle?

  • Azmati sacrificed himself if i recall correctly. That is a bit different than the problem we have right now, somehow Nemesis has managed to block Carrie, Enoch, OLW, and now Hank Prime from recursing after their simulacra were destroyed. What i'm curious is about is how. This is not something we've encountered before here in the 1218 afaik.

Somehow they blocked the signal to the recursion engine from the XM substrate. One thought would be they have managed to infiltrate the Abaddon chamber and destroy the bodies, which is possible after the Simulacra are destroyed, but not while they are walking around, or the bodies are intact. I tend to believe the latter because Ezekiel Calvin contacted Hank for the purpose of moving his body from Afghanistan to the Magnus nest. Which means they somehow blocked the signal to the engine to recurse the beings. How could one do that? The ramifications are disturbing in other ways, because it means the portal network itself is vulnerable to hijacking.

So Hank Prime and the others are gone forever?

  • i don't think so, we fought over their shards in the previous anomaly. Maybe just temporarily stuck in the substrate. This is my hope. The alternative is not something i wish to speculate on.

I'm willing to put down twenty on the prospect that if they recurse then it will be at next year's camp (if there is one). However, If it does not during that event then it will happen during the first anomaly series of 2020 or Umbra.

Reason for this delayed recursion being that I think all members of the Magnus must be sharded before they can recurse properly. Evidence for this theory lies in the fact that after Shonin, no one recursed when their shards were gathered until the end of Abaddon which was when Calvin's shards were gathered.

I hope there is a camp, I badly want to attend one of the camp events.

As for what is blocking the recursion, we only know of three things that might possibly do that without destroying bodies: Glyph sequences, Prime Artifacts, and the Exogenous*. Unfortunately, without raiding Nemesis's nest, or capturing one of their members, to extract as much Intel as possible we can not be certain what method they are using.

    * I will include tecthulhu in the Exogenous category.

So, is trying to find out more about Nemesis the way to find out more about this process?

  • maybe more about recursion mechanics might give us an idea how it can be blocked

So how do we investigate? What can we do?
