Notification when there is a new discussion in categories that we are "following"
I would like to suggest an "addition" that can make forum more user-friendly in my opinion
When i select a category to follow is because i think it is crutial and interesting. For example Release Notes. But when Niantic start a discussion in that category users are not notified in order to visit the page and see the details of the update. At this point the user must manually check the category repeatedly if he wants to check for a new update. Or must wait for a linked announcement in other social media ( tweeter facebook telegram official channel etc) All social media must be used and i personally try to follow and utilize them but a notification possibility for new content in forum categories followed, can make forum more user friendly.
Maybe there also other discussions created about notifications.
Many users are willing to help and that is great!!
Thank you for your efforts of getting community forum to work and evolve in terms of usability and effectiveness

@NianticCasey
Some months ago @Perringaiden had suggested the same thing. A very reasonable request and handy feature i may say.
My fault i haven't spotted that discussion earlier

Allow me to ask once more if it is possible to implement it technically or not. I believe that many agents have same need for real time notifications on new posts in certain categories.
I believe this is something that is technically possible, but not recommended. @NianticCasey will need to talk to the Vanilla support team about the ramifications of the setting.
Stability and performance are two things that must be protected. Lets hope that he will manage to help us be more productive and helpfull community users
I beleieve it is technically possible, but not something Vanilla recommends for whatever reason. @NianticCasey would probably need to talk to the Vanilla support team to find out the ramifications.

I have gone through the article and i spotted the "do not enable for all users" but i also noticed something more .there is a default notification setting
I suppose those are the conditions that triggers an email or notification to the user. Is there a possibility that the first is disabled for us? If ofc conversation equals category.

But based on the thread linked, it appears that setting user by user it is more difficult.
Is there any way we could unsubscribe from notifications from some threads we've posted on but not others? I'm seriously regretting posting on the 'Yo' thread, as most of my notifications are coming from there.
@Rostwold have you tried through preferences? Last setting at the bottom of the list with notification settings to turn off email?
Yes, I have had to turn that off @aristogeiton1 but my issue is that it's a global 'all or nothing' control, as is the notification icon on the top right of every page.
Ideally I'd like the flexibility to turn it on for threads I'm interested in, and off for 'Yo' (and others when they go off the rails).
You can change settings for each notification category .Have you tried it and still have notifications coming from discussions you have participated ?
