What is the benefit of doing long links.

These links prevent smaller internal links for both sides thus making it harder to get points without totally leaving the area? Just trying to understand strategy since I am just a level 4 newbie trying to get points

Longer links are the basis for large fields. Large fields can add a lot of MU to your total as well as increase your max MU stat and add lots of MU to the team’s global stat. There’s no other benefit, and the AP gain is the same. It’s mostly to prevent the other faction from crossing that line or to make a large field. Large links and fields are just fun :D
I would think it’s all about timing and open communication amongst your team If your teammates could create a ton of smaller fields and then you create a larger field around it that would be more iMU for everyone. Thanks for the comment
The benefits are making more MU, the true point of the game.
What makes you think there's a strategy? Some people will just click OK on whatever comes up in their list of keys no matter how stupid the resulting link is...
I agree with you totally.
I admit to doing this
Some people say it's all about layers. Even better. Long links with many layers. Like Shrek: big, green, and he has layers.
ou
can't make millions of MU alone in a little walk down the street.
