Missing Portals in Pokemon go

I restarted playing Pokemon go recently, what i thought was that all the portal in Ingress are converted to Gym or pokestops in Pokemon go.

but what i have observed is that not all Portals are converted to Gym or pokestops, especially those which are close to each other only selected ones are available on Pokemon go.

Even out of 2 portals I submitted infront of my home in Hyderabad (India) only 1 converted to Pokestop in Pokemon go.

Now that Pokemon players are also allowed to submit portals/wayspots wont they be submitting duplicate portals or pokestops as many who dont play Ingress don't know that the portals already exists?

Yes, this is a problem. While portals are based on distance only (about 20m) pokestop are by s2 cells. This results in:

    • Dupes
    • Submission far from real place
    • Lots of edits trying to move existing portal out their correct place
    • Additional Description or tittle edits influencing reviewers opinion
    • Gaming the system to create more gyms
    • Waste of reviewers time and increased backlog
  • Is there another reason why they don't transfer over, besides the distance? I know of one area that has about 20 portals, but only 4 or 5 of them are pokestops/gyms. I know it's not because of any overlap in s2 cells, as they are spread pretty far out. Just curious what other reason would be for the waypoints to not carry over. These are old ones, not new one.

I was going to submit a few for nominations, but I see they are already in Ingress.

@Teddbear70 Just s17 size of the s2 cells. One by each s17. And people are gaming this system by throwiy edits to move the portals out of a precisely location, to get out the cell and activate on pokemon.

Niantic should change it to s18 cells. Everybody will be happy: the reviewers, the support and the editors, less work for everyone.

  • @Hydraulinski But looking at the map, some of the portals are at least 4-6 s17 cells away from the nearest pokestop. There is no pokestop anywhere remotely near it, but yet it's not a pokestop itself. I don't understand what other reason (other than distance, which is not the case here), why portals would not be pokestops.

Maybe The owners reported It? Mind sharing The location?

Last week I found one portal that weren't a pokestop, but I tough It had just been moved recently because I saw it on review sometimes (someone trying to move it, and since I created it I knew). I'm gonna check again if it got update soon.

  • @Hydraulinski It's a local community college. I marked which ones show up as gyms/pokestops in POGO. Everything else doesn't exist in POGO. Some of them I understand, being that they are in the same cell, but many more aren't, so I'm curious why they don't transfer over.

If the portals don't have a photo they also won't convert, upload a photo and they'll go through.

Sharing an Intel Link to one of them would help.
