About Ingress Interview Project ”Date-Maru”:

Project Date-Maru was named after the famous vessel “Date-Maru”, just like the Niantic. Date-Maru (a.k.a. San Juan Bautista) was the first Spanish galleon type of ship built by Japan in 1613. The ship was built by the famous Daimyo: Date Masamune. The ship was built for deplomatic and culture exchange purposes. The first part of the ship name, “Date”, is the surename of Date Masamune. And, the “Maru” attached is a common suffix of Japanese vessels. Date-Maru completed two trans-Pacific roundtrips in both 1613 and 1616.


The major reason we chose Date-Maru as the team name is because of its purpose. Diplomatic and culture exchange means communication and finding the commons behind the differences. This is a part of the key value of Ingress. And, it is the same for Project Date-Maru.


Our ship continues to investigate with ever-changing members.
