Aurora Glyph Hack Challenge
Agents,
Your actions have brought victory against Myriad. They were not able to inflict damage on the Portal network. The events in July gave us a glimpse of who Nemesis is and what their possible intentions are. It would seem that they are walking a dark and insidious path and we would have to keep our eyes open to find more clues about Nemesis. Myriad was only one of the pieces of the puzzle.Β
Aurora is the second piece. We believe this is another person or entity that wants to inflict harm on our universe. From what we can tell, they are here looking for games and mystery which no longer exist anymore in their world. We need to stop them from turning our universe into a mirror image of theirs.
To prevent our world from becoming assimilated and void of diversions, entertainment and amusement, we are asking that all Agents perform as many Glyph hacks as possible between August 15th at 5pm UTC and August 26th at 5pm UTC.Β
Portals offer Glyph sentences that can be between one and five characters in length depending on the level of the Portal. Each successfully completed Glyph hack sentence will earn an Agent one point if the Agent correctly draws all of the Glyph characters in the sentence on the first attempt. An Agent can earn a maximum of five points per Portal, one for each sentence length. However, if an Agent is not able to successfully complete a sentence on the first try, they will no longer be able to earn a point for that Glyph sentence length on that specific Portal.Β
For example:
- Agent Smith Glyph hacks Portal A and successfully completes the one character Glyph hack sentence. They earn one point.Β
- Agent Smith upgrades Portal A and successfully completes the two character Glyph hack sentence. They earn another point.Β
- Agent Smith upgrades Portal A again and does NOT successfully complete the three character Glyph hack sentence. Agent Smith does not earn a point. Glyph hacking Portal A again and successfully completing the three character Glyph hack sentence will NOT earn Agent Smith a point.Β
- Agent Smith and a friend(s) upgrades Portal A again and successfully completes the four character Glyph hack sentence. They earn another point.
- Agent Smith and a friend(s) upgrades Portal A and successfully completes the five character Glyph hack sentence. They earn another point.
- Agent Smith has earned four points out of a maximum of five from Portal A.Β
By August 26th at 5pm UTC, Agents must meet a global challenge threshold of 36,000,000 combined Glyph points in order to stop Aurora. We have also created an Aurora Global Challenge Status Report which can be viewed here, http://bit.ly/AuroraGlobalChallenge, and will be updated every 12 hours according to the schedule in the report.Β
If the objective is met, items obtained by Glyph hacking will increase by approximately 33% from August 27th at 5pm UTC to September 4th at 5pm UTC. If unsuccessful, the output from Glyph hacking will be reduced by 33%.Β
If the global challenge threshold is achieved successfully, there will also be a limited time reward from August 28th at 5pm UTC to September 2nd at 5pm UTC that will enable Glyph hacking to provide 1.5x the normal AP. In addition, we are very close to understanding several new Glyphs. By successfully achieving the global threshold, we believe that enough data will be collected that would unlock these new Glyphs as well.Β
An individual scanner achievement medal can also be earned if players successfully earns 100, 500, or 1000 total challenge points during the event. There will be a new event metric enabled in scanners for the duration of the event to track how many points you have earned during this challenge.

I have a question related with the event, So for counting again you should have a friend that upgrade the portal, but If I put and Ada in an Enlighten portal that reset the status?
Also how can Agent Smith and a "Friend" make a portal of a high enough level to get a 5 glyph sequence? @nia might need to rethink this?
Does "on the first attempt" mean without the redo button, or only on the first overall attempt with redos allowed within the initial time window?
Who is Agent Smith? πππ
No, one portal can only give you 5 points, regardless which faction it is.
Is there any chance we can get some long-running events for PoGo or Wizards Unite so we have something to do in-between hacks? π€
So a P8 portal can only net you one single point if you get the 5 glyph sentence right?
That seems a bit backwards.
Shouldn't the harder glyph sentences net you more points than the easy ones?
Also, for our low level friends, this is going to be a VERY hard challenge, since they can only upgrade a few times (if that)
Nothing ever counts again for you. You have one chance on glyping each portal correctly for each of the 5 different character length glyph sequences. It doesn't matter whether you or a friend upgrades the portal or whether the portal is flipped. But if you have a sequence 3 portal at the beginning of the event, destroying and rebuilding as level 1 will give you the chance for the 1 character sequence.
If I correctly do a Glyph to a portal that already is level 8, do I earn 5 points or only one?
are all the upgrading steps needed per portal in order to get all the five points?
WHAT???
Agent Smith upgrades Portal A again and does NOT successfully complete the three character Glyph hack sentence. Agent Smith does not earn a point.
Glyph hacking Portal A again and successfully completing the three character Glyph hack sentence will NOT earn Agent Smith a point.Β
Its necessary to upgrade de portal and have only one chance to earn the point?
So a single portal can get you 5 points but requires a team of 8 people, plus hack mods or wait 25 minutes to hack it? And if you mess up even one, that's 5 minutes wasted on that portal?
seems to me this needs to be simplified to "any valid glyph hack gives you 1 point times number of glyphs in the phrase"
Only one. You need to hack all different lengths to get all 5 points.
In order to get the 5 points per portal, do we have to start with 1 glyph and work up one at a time, or if we do a 5 glyph sequence, does it count as 5 points?
Before we start with this challenge, I have one question:
Will you ruin it again like the Myriad Hack challenge by shutting down the Ingress app for a day on the weekend before the end of the event?
this is going to be a challenge indeed... at 5 points maximum per portal, assuming you can upgrade it from a 1 glyph sequence up to 5 glyph sequence, that's 200 unique portals... or 1000 portals if you can only score one point on a portal due to high level (4-5 glyph sequence) and anything in between.. "Fun" times ahead!!π

Unless I'm missing something, this "challenge" is a recycled and more tedious version of the prior UPH "challenge".
That is deeply disappointing.
To get the maximum 5 points per portal, it looks like it needs to be successfully glyph hacked (on the first try) at every tier/stage from 1-5 glyph sequences
So, for all intents and purposes, a player is going to realistically max out at 3, maybe 4 points per portal, assuming they have someone with them at all times and start with grey portals.
I love the complexity of the rules. It makes those who earn medals more proud of them. Nia, don't let the casuals make it easy!
No, just one point in the lvl 8 sequence (5 glyph)
So 100 L1 portal glyphs? Easy π
Portals run hot after 4 hacks. But this challenge encourages 5 hacks per portal. Taking recommendations on what we should do between hacks 4 and 5.
A player is realistically going to max out at 1 point per portal because no one wants to sit at the same portal for 10+ minutes just to earn 3 points when you could visit more portals in that time.
Find other portals? Add a multi hack or heatsink?
yes, presuming you can start from level 1 and upgrade the portal with a friend (or two) and not mess up any of the sequences on the first try
Some of us "casuals" work 8-5 jobs and still want to try for the harder medals.
Making the sentences unique to each portal is just there to frustrate people.
Presuming you successfully complete the 1, 2, and 3 glyph hacks.
Overall, not as bad as the unique hack challenge last month. Still that is a lot of portals to visit for the gold tier metal.
That won't reset the status or the counter. It based on the Portal - period.
Friends... seven of them :)
Who does number two work for?
