Extra key capsules

Dear NIA,

It has been a while since key duplication was a thing, and since it is not coming back, would it not be great to have some extra capsules. Over the years the amount of portals has greatly increased, but not the number of key capsules. I think they would be handy for agents that play locally and keep their hood blue or green. And also handy for the agents that like to field, as we are always struggling for space. It would be greatly appreciated by some of us to have some more space to store keys.

Thanks in advance for considering,

Disturbinator

When I go to an anomaly I have to let go a lot of keys, otherwise I cannot be as usefull there as I have and want to be. Its always a struggle to let go so many keys to make room for anomalykeys. Please consider this for us dedicated players.

  • It’s probably the most valuable thing Niantic could sell/rent that wouldn’t upset the game dynamics too much , key lockers or even very big key lockers

  • There definitely needs more chances to get/hold/grow keys. The game is stalling as a result.

I agree. Making it posible to store more keys will make for more relaxed and more Creative playing. There is a limited amount of time agents are able to play the game, so the fields that are difficult to make (but posible) , are often never made, because you have to choose which key to keep and which to let go of. You will likely keep the ones you're pretty sure of to use in the future. I would gladly buy an extra pack of key lockers if it became posible.

  • Any possible way of holding and therefore keeping more keys is very welcome. Saves alot of time and stress, especially for any events

More than a response about your topic (with which I completely agree), I am hoping that someone from niantic will actually respond on the forums.

Ingress is a strategy game, this unfortunately means, making the most of the available inventory space which is of itself a strategy.

The only exception to this is when it comes to an Anomaly and you cannot recycle your tactical/souvenir keys

A time locked capsule to hold excess keys for 7 days would be handy, ie once you start it the items within it are locked for 7 days in that capsule and do not count towards your inventory count.

At the end of 7 days, the items return to your inventory.

But this is a niche scenario

  • Both factions will benefit. So I am not trying to preach for my ENL choir here. It's just lame we dont have duplication, and we cant hold more keys. 2 arguments to have more keylockers.

  • A 3rd reason may be you want to charge your reclaimed machina, so it doesnt come back to interfere with your links/fields.

The key locker idea is indeed a good idea.

However, it should only be sold in a category that does not break the game.

Personally, I think it is time for one more key locker.

Another idea I would add would be to add a new feature of a portal key photo locker that can hold the information (dynamic link) of the memory key, like Pikmin postcards or PGO gift cards.

In this case, the dynamic link would allow the location to be viewed on the scanner at any time.

However, since that is only a memory, it should not be able to be used as a portal key in a recharge or link.

This would not be a problem even if you could record about 500 locations.

The latter is not a high priority, but it would require less development effort, since it is conceivable that it could be accomplished by recombining existing technology.

@Grogyan Recursions are also an excellent use case for vaults. When I was about to recurse I would have loved to have stuffed most of my gear, including but not limited to keys, into a vault that stayed locked until I cracked it open.

So is someone without core therefore better at strategy, since they have less available inventory space?

  • ShottixShottix ✭✭✭✭

With a CORE membership you'll have 2500 inventory space + 600 keys space with the lockers. It's difficult to understand why you feel you need more than 3100 space to field.

  • HosetteHosette ✭✭✭✭✭

@Shottix And recharge, and transfer to other agents, and a few souvenirs, and...

I have a huge collection of keys to random durables because you never know when an emergency YOLO into the next state or across the ocean is going to have tactical value.

I bet they dont sell anymore because their database would fry xD

Not sure if brian said sometime ago there probably wont be more keycaps sold.

He mentioned that there is an inventory cap around where we are, due to some limitations that he didn't go into further. Likely lack of planning when designing.

Originally the game had no limits on how many items you could carry, which obviously became a problem, but we Ingress agents are hoarders!

  • mortuusmortuus ✭✭✭✭✭

Yeah probably, same with dont add more missions to the maker tool otherwise it breaks.... and they have also said stuff that you buy once isnt really worth investing in.

I feel like 600 keys is plenty.

If anything, we need a "memento" capsule, ive got a lot of memories in keys.

The space becomes critical for Anomaly level activities.

Otherwise it stinks to have to chuck R7+ just to make room for more boom.

  • MirthmakerMirthmaker ✭✭✭✭

    Yes we are.

  • KhatreKhatre ✭✭✭✭✭

    it was in 2018.

today it's barely enough just to keep keys for fielding. no more room for keys to recharge

I think extra keycapsules would be a good thing, or some amount of increased inventory.

If being a highactive agent, you could be rewarded with extra inventory slots, for completing the daily bounties or walking certain distances every week/month?

The extra inventoryslots would dissappear after a fixed amount of time, if the activity stops. And be gained once again when activity peaks.

I think all agents should get a free key locker for every 100 PORTALS DISCOVERED. I'd get 4 and be halfway to 5!

Niantic wants us to pour our hearts and time and creative abilities (photography, writing, mapping) into creating Wayspots for their games (to make money). All that effort brings emotional attachment to our creations.

I used to enjoy making big layered fields. AND I enjoyed submitting great portals. These two loves conflict. You can't keep both.

  • BreenzyBreenzy ✭✭✭✭

Its funny, because we used to manage to field and recharge with just 2000 space and no key lockers.

Now I don't mean to say this as a "back in my day we walked to school uphill both ways in the snow".

But how is 600 free slots legitimately not enough space? Inventory management is a key part of the game and I don't know if additional key lockers will solve your problem.

  • Back in the days we had less portals, and we could duplicate keys. So that is why, and of course I can "manage", but now you are juggling with these keys the whole time, or shred them when going to an event. It is time for an upgrade, or bring back key duplication. Or not of course. But it would improve my ingress life.
