  • Purchased Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. No I can no longer perform portal scans. Also Ingress app shutdown intermittently. only way to resume is to restart Ingress app.

Yeah, this is what I was afraid of, and one of the reason why I hadn't upgraded to the device.

@NianticBrian should just a quick update to the whitelist for the snapdragon 8 gen 3

  • I have the same problem with galaxy s24

@NianticBrian, please, add processor Exynos 2400 with GPU Xclipse 940 to white list

My S24 (basic Version, no plus or even ultra), Android 14, OneUI 6.1, does not support portal-scanning. In the "portal-view" the button is missing and in the "settings" there is no button to activate those portal-scans.

All other INGRESS - stuff is working properly.

Can someone @NiA fix this issue?

Niantic needs to make some sort of automated whitelist option, its not really good that buying the latest samsung out of box u cant scan whats up with that ? mobile tech is developing fast u shouldnt have to worry buying a brand new phone if it will be possible to scan with it. Niantic needs to be 2 steps ahead those users and not wait several weeks or months before they whitelist it. If they will keep doing it manually this problem will not go away..

It is not limited to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but the older AR scanning engine limits the number of smartphones that can be scanned by Ingress compared to the PGO and Wayfarer applications.

This limitation is a big loss considering that, unlike other games where Ingress agents have been directly warned by the support team for low-quality scans, many players are willing to cooperate to contribute to Niantic's future.

Therefore, could this be changed as follows?

Niantic would benefit from doing this.

    (1) Allow AR scans to be performed by launching the Wayfarer application from within the Ingress application, rather than from within the Ingress application.

    (2) Allow Ingress to count the results of AR scans sent from the Wayfarer application.

The first method is the one currently used by Niantic Campfire. We can view and submit Campfires by tapping the Campfire button in the Ingress app.

In reality, we just access Campfire from the Ingress screen, and Ingress is just a gateway.

By doing this in the same way, you can scan the Wayfarer application with the latest updates.

The second method is currently used in the Wayfarer review (Recon medal). We are not doing portal reviews on the Ingress screen, but they count towards the Recon Medal value.

If we do this in the same way, we can scan them with the Wayfarer application, and as a side effect, we can get wayspots that are not Ingress portals to be scanned, The side effect is that Niantic will get a better return on their investment.

    Please consider it.

Note that before Niantic can whitelist S24 series for scanning, Google must add it to their ARCore supported devices list:

Since I updated my S22 Ultra to the newest software I also can't scan. I can do the scanning but when I press the button to finalize the scan my game crashes.
