Allowing Links Shorter than 2000m Under Fields [Discussion]
Agents,
The NIA has studied the impact of allowing longer Links under Fields throughout the Discoverie Anomaly Series. Agents’ local activities obviously differ across Regional Cells and depend on multiple factors, but upon reviewing global activity, we have decided to increase the maximum Link under Field distance from 500 meters to 2,000 meters until further notice.
This updated 2,000-meter Link under Field distance will also be in effect during upcoming Global Challenges, Operations, and Anomaly events (this distance will not increase from 2,000 meters to 8,000 meters, like it did during the 2023 Anomaly Series).
All other preconditions still apply; for example Links cannot cross existing Links, a Portal must be fully deployed with eight Resonators to link to or from, and maximum Link distance depends on Resonators’ level of the originating Portal. Links created under Fields will also continue to count Mind Units (MU) towards the Cell’s Regional Score.

Hot garbage
You’d have preferred 8km to stay?
I'd prefer 0km under-field linking. They were called control fields for a reason.
Poor baby.
The Smurf tears are tasty. Keep being negative in every single one of your posts, they'll increase it more.
Jokes aside, 2k is pretty good. 1331m would have been entertaining.
Also, I'll still add that it would be nice if in the key carousel they showed a list of keys you could normally link to, but put a lock over them and when the player scrolls to the portal key, a red message stating "LINK DISTANCE SUPPRESSED UNDER FIELDS, click here for more info". The more info button brings up a short explanation that to clear the suppression, the fields above them must be clear. Then give a link out to the intel map showing the field(s) in question.
There's not enough engagement for new players to understand there's an intel map to track and play with. This would be a good segue opportunity.
I think you meant "Segway".
And that is a basic QoL (Quality of Life) update that they should be doing. That is, if they want to be intuitive and figure out how to keep their player base going. Big time for new agents who don't know anything.
I found this on the internet this evening.
They didn't test it btw that's just current machina max range so they went with that.
Oooo, an official press release. Umm, news flash, the game has changed. Get on board or find something you like to do.
If you want to go back to the beginning then you lose a lot of things like capsules, power cubes, glyphing. The game has evolved. Linking under fields hasn't been a game changer at all. If anything it allows more gameplay.
Quite frankly the Ingress Founders Union can get stuffed.
If they had their way, we wouldn't have power cubes, 70% less portals, no level 9 -16, no recursion, no Apex, no Battle Beacons, no Kinetic Capsules, no x2 AP events, no C.O.R.E, etc, etc.
They generally want to game to remain as it was in 2012.
Talk about a (rather small) group of people stuck in the past.
It sounds like it may only have one member anyways. I don’t hear anyone else ever mention it.
Just seem to be a bunch of luddites who oppose any and all new changes to the game.
If they hate the game that much nowadays, there is a function now (which I highly suspect they also opposed) to 'delete account'.
Is the "Ingress Founders' Union" even a real thing? My Founders badge and I have never heard of it. I guess I could make up an organization like it and start posting authoritatively too.
You must be confused.
The IFU has not posted anything opposing the features you mentioned.
However, the IFU is against such changes to core gameplay mechanics as under-field linking, which significantly reduces the incentive to spend time and effort to field strategically.
It's not the first IFU post that @joecain has
made up... sorry... "found on the Internet".Well Joe needs something to do since he doesn't play anymore. He is desperately reliving his memories of the good ole days. Some people cannot adapt to change and apparently some of them become bitter posters on chat forums.
Which is quite a paradox
What would seem like core gameplay? No powercubes? No capsules? No hack mods? The more you try to state fields, the more it seems the whole action of control fields has never been thought out or tweaked in its history compared to the other game elements. We had adjustments to mods and bursters in the past as well. The control fields still act the same manner beyond the 2 km.
Aaaatchtchually, I blew up some bot portals this afternoon.
Honestly, referring to yourself in the third person plural is pretty cringe.
It's like saying "The United Basement Alliance" is protesting lack of pizza rolls available from familial relations.
So where exactly can this mythical "Ingress Founders Union" be found?
A Google search pulls up absolutely nothing, except a few "press release" images posted by you.
We are still looking for suitable office space. In the meantime check us out on the gram.
