Question about politics, demolished portals and the relevance of the portal database.
We are ingress agents who are overwhelmingly adults and adequate people. We are not Pokemon Go players who can try to make a PokeStop out of a sock lying on a chair.
Therefore, I have a question for you. What to do with remote and controversial monuments? For example, in our country there is a war and decommunization, monuments to communist leaders and figures of the Soviet era are being demolished everywhere. But they remain in the ingress database. There are also simple monuments that are simply removed by municipal services due to damage during artillery shelling.
What do you do with portals in your country during changes in political and other regimes, and in general with portals that have not been in the real world for a long time? Is it worth keeping the portal database up-to-date, or still leaving memories about portals that have long been no longer in this world?

I don’t know what Niantic would decide on this but I know they did start to clean out confederate items from their database
We are removing Confederate statues and monuments, with the exception of those tied to historical battlegrounds, museums and other notable locations. It’s become clear these do not provide an inclusive environment for our community and furthermore represent symbols of oppression and glorify slavery. This is part of our ongoing commitment to use our platform to stand in support of the Black community and reject racism.
So it may be better raised on the Wayfarer forums with examples.
We generally remove them.
Stuff changes over time - we had a local arguement that some should be kept for 'historical' purposes. However the general consensus was removing them allows room for new submissions to go into the game and one what was 'worthy' of being kept was highly subjective and almost impossible to build rules around.
We may make exceptions for 'famous' portals, one's that were key points of combat/field anchors, but generally, if it's gone, it's gone.
Changes IRL still nor finished, there can be new beautiful thing on a place on that removed memorial...which should be a great POI,so if U're not chasing about "portals discovered",maybe it's a better way to upload another photo and description and name? i
People constantly try to hide their history no matter how dark it was
There are a lot of beautiful things people have made, that are destroyed because they feel they need to erase their history.
Unfortunately for tourists they want to learn the history, so if a monument or cathedral for example is destroyed, tourists cannot see the turmoil the people there had and how it shaped their country/city
This was put into the scientific spotlight when an organization destroyed thousands of years old monuments, some had been save by high precision scans.
But the tangleible thing is gone.
They haven't done anything with this 😂
I think Niantic should keep a copy of the database in Ukraine and then offer it up as a database for rebuilding to cities. That would be a great project.
At this point in time, any wayspot data removed from the real world will be deleted and no records will be kept.
I find it unfortunate that Wayfarer ignores the timeline.
Personally, I would like to see Wayfarer adopt the time series as a new idea for the database that will be the basis of the application, so that the past data can be preserved.
This would make it possible to create games like Chrono Trigger, for example, that go back and forth through multiple time-spaces in the real world, and AR can be used to display objects that existed in the past.
But this will not happen because Wayfarer today is only concerned with eliminating the backlog in large cities in developed countries.
This idea of preserving history will never occur to them today.
It is also unfortunate that PGO players are not interested in high quality AR scans and only scan the ground because it does not occur to them to create the future with AR scans and they are only interested in the pofin in front of them. (They got a direct warning from Niantic for repeating such scans. LOL.)
