[Discussion] Unveiling the Evolution of “OPR Live”: recognition of excelling in Wayfarer Challenges
Agents,
In 2018, the inception of the “OPR Live” medal marked a pivotal moment for passionate individuals like yourself, driven by the desire to actively contribute to the intricate task of constructing a sophisticated real-world map. Two key objectives were set in motion - (1) expediting Wayspot edits and appeals and (2) providing a direct line for Agents to have their Wayfarer queries addressed by the Wayfarer team. Throughout the years, the Wayfarer team has tirelessly worked to deliver these two objectives through more consistent and scalable ways. The time is ripe for a change in Ingress’ “OPR Live” initiative.
New “OPR Live” Initiative
Agents achieving the top Individual Tier of selected Wayfarer’s community challenges will now be granted an increment to their “OPR Live” medal count, coupled with additional rewards. Please note that the Wayfarer challenges selected will be limited to not more than one per quarter, ensuring a strategic and measured progression and that challenges granting the “OPR Live” medal reward will be clearly marked as such. Not all Wayfarer challenges will reward “OPR Live” medal credit.
Qualified Wayfarer community challenges will be announced via Ingress intelligence channel Ingress News as well as be labeled as part of Wayfarer’s rewards announcement.
The original Operation Recon program remains an integral part of our investigations. Its execution will be timed for maximum impact. Agents are urged to stay vigilant and tuned in for forthcoming directives.
Agents must maintain consistency in credential usage across Wayfarer and their Ingress Scanner to ensure the seamless reflection of their medal count status.
Inaugural Challenge
The first challenge of this new era is currently scheduled to transpire from December 13, 2023, to December 20, 2023, details to be announced via the Wayfarer Community.
Agents, your input and recommendations have been invaluable and continue to shape our strategies.
Remain vigilant at all times. When engaging in XM investigations and operations, adherence to local health and security protocols is imperative.

Details to be announced..... for an event that has already started....
You almost can't make this stuff up.
Almost every single Pogo event ends up with a post on Twitter with an apology about an issue with the event. @Hosette is a fan of those posts, I've seen her replies. 😎
The value of this medal has dropped a lot.
I don't know who first conceived of this, but it must have been someone who didn't understand the value of an Ingress medal that stands onsite.
Because it's "ONLINE", not "LIVE".LOL!
It's a live event now
It's wonderful for players in those regions, and those that can read those languages, past OPR live events were predominantly in English speaking countries.
I am mono lingual, so I can't help
Could you not use Google Translate/DeepL/your devices built in translation to do it? That’s what most people will be doing
@EvilSuperHeros is right. One day I replied to a Niantic post about a special event problem with this:
Why does every special event come with an apology? It would be far better for your customers if you issued the apology before the event started so they could know what was going to go wrong and could plan accordingly.
They barely had the event when it existed. Kind of weird to state the value was dimished when the value wasn't even evaluated.
Quite a bit of it is context. I see a stone table. That's what it translates to (Google Translate). Supporting info is as follows.
"This area is a good place for community residents to communicate and rest. There are no supply stations in the community, and the supply stations that can be applied for are also very limited. We hope to pass the review."
Is this what it actually is? Is this normal for that area? What are supply stations? Why does this seem to be something of note? Map shows buildings, this appears to be in a building, but is that what it actually is? I really don't have any easy way to look it up, its in a foreign country with a foreign language that I don't speak or understand their customs or other such stuff.
Next one
It's a mural, but it appears to be outside of a school. Supporting description "everyone in this town knows this place" Yup, helpful. No good way to verify if its a school or not.
Another one that I can't tell what it is by the name/description of the poi. But at least supporting information says what it is, and asks for a pokejunk.
"We often gather here to eat with local people. It's delicious, so I'd like you to make it a Pokestop."
Oh yeah, I get what you mean.
I have rejected a lot so far, because there’s not enough there for me to say whether it is good/eligible. It’s up to the submitter to provide information, knowing that anyone could set a bonus location to that area or may have tourists doing Wayfarer.
South Korea, what's with the Magical Tree's? I've gotten two so far.
Also, South Korea, stop begging for stops and use that supporting image for whatever you subbed. Not just an open area near it.
Google translate doesn't understand a lot of the nuances of languages too well.
As well as, if I get back to reviews again, I would be doing so on mobile, which for such a challenge and having to use Google translate all the time, is far from practical p
It is up to the management AGs of the cities where Anomaly is held to initiate the holding of the Anomaly sub-event.
In fact, it seems wrong to talk about it as if Niantic is refusing to host it, since it is being held in cities that wanted to host OPR Live and Niantic agreed to do so.
That's been pretty easy for me on mobile
This really is separate from anomalies. I mean all they did with OPR Live was review any rejections I had or if I wanted to provide any context to the areas for the team. I didn't want to be picky on my removals so I was good enough to receive a fast track for my entire pending queue.
It may have have changed, but when I tried to do this a few years ago, it was less than practical.
I haven't done reviewing in ages. Got fed up of the garbage
I've not reviewed for a while, decided to get me this nice medal and help give back to the community.
A submission of an overpass over a motorway pops up. Usually I'd 1 star and move on, but now you select thumbs down for it, and I'm asked to select a reason. Except, it's not a school or adult location or generic business. So... are random overpasses now suitable wayspots? Location was right, it clearly has safe pedestrian access...
Oh good I'd say it's not really a meeting spot or a community interest point, but thumbs up on everything else makes me fear that somewhere an overpass has just been created as a new and "exciting" location to explore!
This can't be right surely?!
Is it permanent and distinct? How would you say this is different to any other overpass, would be the way I would think on it.
According to the definition "Is the location a permanent, physical, tangible, and identifiable place"
yes, an overpass is indeed permanent and physical tangible location lol
They need to simply add "other" as a reason for a location to be inappropriate so we can say "its a random overpass..."
I really dislike the quality of some of these submissions that if you follow the new "guidelines" you're kind of forced to either mark them incorrectly as generic businesses or accept bad submissions. And you just know there are pogo players also accepting them just to maximise the gyms/pokestops.
I think once I get the medal I'm going to stick to just submitting spots and review less regularly.. I also notice I've dropped out of "great" for the first time which disappoints me too.
Choose thumbs down for "permanent and distinct."
“Other” is also available if you 👎 on Accuracy, you can then type in a reason
