Hosette's infrequent request: Please let us recycle all purchased items
It's been more than six months since I made this request...
Right now I can go to the Ingress store and buy resonators, mods, bursters, cubes and hypercubes, kinetic capsules, apex boosts, frackers, beacons, fireworks, and battle beacons. If I wanted to I could buy 100 X8, immediately recycle them, buy another hundred, immediately recycle them, and keep doing that all day. I can't recycle kcaps, apex boosts, or any of the other special boost items.
Niantic, please provide some way for people to remove these things from their inventory without the annoyance of having to slowly and tediously use them. I know y'all aren't making many feature changes to the scanner these days but could you please give support permission to remove paid items upon request? Or something else that lets people control their inventories effectively?
More than 20% of the inventory space I pay for with C.O.R.E. is now consumed by Apex boosts. I'm recursing in a few weeks (at the first portal that I ever hacked, and at the exact minute I hacked it) and I really want to use 112 inventory slots for something useful.

I could not agree more. I'm not even sure what the logic was in making it so you couldn't recycle them in the first place? Why do I have to use a beacon and can't just get rid of it?
Small nitpick but you can recycle the Kcaps, only the permanent one is, well, permanent.
But I do agree, while I never had the problem of boosts filling up my inventory, it should still be an option for people that want to get rid of them for whatever reason. Could be behind a tick box in the settings that you manually have to toggle with a big **** "You are recycling Premium items, no take backs" box when trying to recycle them.
I'd trade you some of my unused frackers for some of those tasty Apex Boosts if I could.
Like almost any other system. Give it a standard MS warning, "ARE YOU SURE YOU REALLY WANNA DO THIS?" and then give it a second one and move the OK button to a different location (than the first one) on the screen/UI so folks can't claim accident. Yeah, really, its that effing simple.
I’m sure it’s easier to deny the few vocal people this QOL upgrade versus having to deal with the larger number of morons who will click through five warnings and still delete their boosts or beacons and then have to deal with support to get them back.
But also, I imagine most of the Ingress team don’t even play Ingress and they surely don’t spend any time here on the forums. So y’all ain’t getting these incredibly simple QOL upgrades anytime soon.
@ZeroHecksGiven At this point I'd be happy if I could just petition support to remove them when I have a big pile. I've asked a couple of times and they always say that they can't.
Then we need to find who has delete access. Reach out to @NianticThia directly each time it needs to be done? I mean, if they won't get support some basic access, or even the ability to escalate it to someone that does, then need to waste Thia's time with it.
It's what other companies do. Why waste some people's time with something that can be done by someone else, especially someone in the Help Desk or even a 2nd Level Help Desk or something.
I did state @NianticThia has access to accounts.
@MoogModular Other than tagging her here I don't think I have a good route to reach her.
Plus, that doesn't solve the problem systemically.
Add it to the next AMA question list.
The next AMA.
The next AMA?
Or just use them and let the timer tick out without playing
@grendelwulf That is an annoying pain in the derriere and waste of my time. It also gives me 112K of AP that I don't want.
but why shouldnt they eat up your inventory? If they give you enough of these things, you get to order C.O.R.E so you can hold the extra 500 items, and be given more of them faster, to guarantee you stay on C.O.R.E.
@KonnTower That's an interesting argument.
My counter-argument is that I want the 500 inventory slots for my working inventory, and other than the fact that I like giving Niantic money to help Ingress survive the inventory space is the most important benefit of C.O.R.E. There is zero chance of me cancelling C.O.R.E. because those inventory slots are valuable to me. I would gladly pay double for 1000 working inventory slots. For me the bigger risk is that I will get so frustrated that I will cancel C.O.R.E. because I've decided to quit playing Ingress.
The number of support calls you get when people recycle a premium item by accident. Because people constantly do it.
Like this sort of support load that Niantic doesn't want to do.
Basically this is the cheapest way to avoid support overheads while providing the service.
@Perringaiden They let PoGo players recycle purchased items and somehow they manage to survive the massive support burden of that. (By massive I mean probably nearly-nonexistent.)
Open a bug under the "Report a bug" section to see if you get a response.
IMO: This is still just a "you" problem. It is perfectly possible to get rid of the boosts, maybe not the way you require, but the possibility is there. If your inventory is consumed by boosts, it's your own choice.
and this isn't Pokémon Go...
If only we got those new backends. Another possible feature lost to ingress being on the bargain basement servers.
@MoogModular No, this isn't Pokemon Go, but the games are similar in the way they handle inventory management and purchasing items from the store. In what way do you think being able to recycle fungible purchased items in Ingress would be different from in PoGo?
Similar or not, there's different teams involved with the programming of each game.
Out of all people on here, you already should know that. Especially with programming.
Either that or try to get hired by Niantic and see how much time is dedicated to specific departments. Again, something you probably are well aware about.
The dead horse is still getting beaten here.
@MoogModular I understand the technical component of implementing something like that. I was pushing back against the argument that allowing people to recycle purchased items would be a significant support burden. Evidence from that other game suggests that it's not a problem.
As a reminder...
A game where it's not 100% Niantic. I just don't know why you're asking these same questions.
The bottom image should be the same for both
Pokemon Go pays it's way, and their support team is massive.
Step 1: add a checkbox in settings to allow recycling of premium items
Step 2: show a confirmation dialog when trying to recycle premium items
Step 3: ask to complete a 5 sequence glyph before actually recycling the items
Step 4: add people to the helpdesk because you can be 100% certain People will still "accidentally" do this
:-)
Sure they have money to do all that.
:-)
Thia laughed at you for asking this and how the hell does it not solve it?
Systemically = the solution works effectively for everyone and doesn't require ad hoc manual intervention. It's not Thia's job to manage people's inventory and people shouldn't have to reach out to her (through a mechanism that doesn't exist, AFAIK) to ask her for favors whenever they want to do so.
