These are all flagship SoCs
My Galaxy S21 Ultra Exynos 2100
Isn't listed, but it does use the Mali-G78 GPU which is officially supported.
But older snapdragon and Exynos devices are supported, and these are cheap. Showing that to do scanning an older flagship is affordable, but not to everyone.
My Pixel 8 seems to scan just fine in PoGo, why not Ingress?
Other Niantic apps use an older version of the scanning tech from Niantics Lightship, Pokemon still uses the same method from 3 1/2 ago and hasn't been updated once since it was introduced. Ingress uses the newest version which combines Meshing and Depth of Field. Niantic has to decide if it is worth for them to lock out a ton of devices, but devices that can scan in PoGo not being able to scan in Ingress is (according to Niantic) not a bug if they don't have one of the supported GPUs.
i cant scan and i have a supported gpu so thats weird
PoGO is not supported on rooted devices and it's pointless.
Blame that on them using SafetyNet
Pointless.. There are no arm6 cpu with openGL3. 512 ram is not enough for Android8+ even to work stable(even aosp version).
And scanning. Official ARVoyage app, mentioned on lightship page, works.. PoGo scan works. Ingress scan - doesnt. If Nia wants less ar data, okay.
Ingress is using an updated version of the scanning like it's been mentioned before
Okay, so I guess if I want to start scanning again I'm going to have to upgrade my phone.
I'm not really fine with that, as my current phone isn't that old, I only bought it because the flagship Samsungs were over $2,000 at the time. I really only had 3 conditions, one of them being that it could scan portals. So I went with the mid range Galaxy A33 5G. It's been fine, been able to do everything I want it to do till Scanning was disabled on it. But that's OK, I'll buy a new phone, just so I can scan again.
I'd just like to know if there are any plans to further tighten the scanning restrictions as I don't want to buy another phone, only to lose the ability to scan in a few months.
Any suggestions as to what would be the best value phone to buy that can still scan?
One thing I've noticed since this scanning debacle started is how many people actually like scanning. The amount of trash talk scanning has got since it was introduced, you'd have thought it was a crime lol.
Honestly niantic should give out compatible phones for agents to scan with.
Why do I have to be a phone techie to play this game 😂
I bought a flagship phone that's still under a payment plan. I haven't been able to scan for a few months now, but that's fine, I just won't do it.
I feel like the pixel 8 meets the minimum requirements for scanning if the 7 does.
Yeah it should, it's just they have to whitelist the devices especially for devices that have a custom SoC GPU. (still doesn't excuse them since this is the 3rd year for Pixel devices)
What phone do u have feathercuffs? Niantic is afterall a tech company but yeah not easy follow what phones can scan or not....
There is no reason that scanning shouldn't work on a sub-par phone. Okay, the data Niantic will receive won't be as good, but so what? It is a game, scanning had become an part of the game for many of us, so those of us with a phone which isn't quite good enough should still be able to take part.
Even if the scanning data which comes out of my phone is 100% useless (which I don't believe, unless Niantic are completely useless with this sort of data), it would be no issue for them to simply sideline the received data.
Conclusion: this is another decision in which Niantic show they don't understand or care about their players.
Should it work with an pixel 6? A While ago i succesfully scanned something, maybe in the past 1-2 months.
Ingress
Ingress uses Lightship V2
Today i tried to scan something with my pixel 6 (should have Mali-G78 gpu) and it works. But its way slower then before and looks different. Iam glad that i did the medal to the level i wanted before this change in the past. Now its much more exhausting.
The new scanning method isn't well optimized yet.
They'll get around to it like the 100 other things they have to fix or fully implement.
Doesnt work for me and my phone has supported gpu. Is a new game update needed? Im sure many has the missing scan button but what should all do then
It sucks not being able to fully participate in the meta. Every day I lose scout controller on something but I can't gain any new scout controller
Yes, I have a 6a and it should definitely work for you.
I have a phone with a supported GPU (motorola moto edge 40 - GPU Mali-G77) but I can't scan portals.
I would suggest raising it as a bug in the Bug Reports section
Even that section feels abandoned by niantic
Maybe they’re planning on closing the forums and moving us all to Campfire?
Why? What would that accomplish? Why are you comparing an orange to a flaming dumpster fire?
Oh, I am not saying that they should. At all. But who knows what they’re thinking up top
You are the one that brought up the flaming dumpster fire
Just mentioned (mostly jokingly) as it’s their own product rather than relying on third party ones like Google+ or Vanilla
