Got notification that Unique Portal "Leikkipaikka" is nearby:

But I have already captured the portal:

Captured layer is enabled, highlights "not captured" portals on Scanner:

Adventure Sync: Nearby setting is enabled:

Intel Link to portal:

Also the Intel Map shows that the portal is already captured:

Same thing in here are similar reports from other agents at the community discussion groups.

Got it aswell today, a portal i have captured hundreds of times if not even more since 2015. Another bugged feature the community didnt even ask for...

The portal is also neutral if it matters, i guess they didnt test it enough

Ok, this seems to be related to mass micromoves of portals reported in here:

I got the notification from a portal that had moved an inch so this seems to be related.

This might actually be very likely the reason. The visual markers for unique portals are stored as coordinates, so if a portal is moved (and even if it's just a few centimeters), the client think it's a new portal, which might be the reason why the wrong notifications are triggered.

The reason you don't get another unique visit/capture as a stat is because on the server side, uniques are actually stored by the portal GUID which doesn't change via a move. Once you visit/capture the portal again, a new unique marker is created at the new position.

  • Not related with moved portals, I keep getting notification of a portal with the same coordinates from attack emails from past months, the same as actual and wasn't moved at all.

Same for me. So far I have only been notified of portals that are NOT unique to me. Curiously if I travel to an actual unique, I get no notification. Guess I should test to see if capping the portal suggested increases my Explorer badge.

If its shows not unique on the layer it will not count but for some reason u get popup for portals u have taken many times before.

  • Same. Not unique in any way is reported nearby.

    captured, hacked, scanned portal.

interesting hypothesis on the “unique” report generated from position, but this seems like an odd choice if other “unique” criteria is different; regardless of server client roles, unless it was a convenience criteria due to how adventure sync works on the client side

Haven't seen notifications from already captured portals anymore. Also release notes says that you got only one notification per day. So it seems to be working ok for Unique and Machine portals.

For example just today was cycling and playing Ingress over 1.5 hours (also completed 6 part mission banner) until got the first notification about Unique Portal. It was a new portal and have not captured that before:

There were 7 Unique portals between 150-900 meters away, but did not get notification from them. I guess there is a distance limit when you got notification, or time limit as I cycled and passed a portal about 150 meters away quite fast.

    From release note 2.118.1:

    • Fixed issue with Adventure Sync: Nearby alerting Agents about non-unique Portals once per day.

I did use version 2,117.1, so this must be probably a server side fix.
