Yes, magic the gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh both are already Web3 games.
I'm not sold on NFTs.
But that doesn't mean I can dive in, understand things, look at what the future may hold. And appreciate the hard work many people doing improving the current generation of games.
Actually, he can't do that, because SpotX never distributed the NFTs to individual player wallets. As far as the Blockchain is concerned, all those tokens still belong to Niantic.
It's almost like they didn't want people to know how many users Trading Post had. The logical answer is "at least 1000," but I don't think the number of repeat users is anywhere near that. There's probably a lot of users who tried it once and never went back.
It was a cool concept and I really wanted to use it... If only it wasn't crypto web3 nft stuff baked in it. Specifically avoided it because it had crypto web3 nft stuff in it when it really didn't need to have any of it.
Sure, blockchain has it's uses but Nfts are a fad in the form they are currently used. Aka owning the link to a jpg. I'm gonna make a hot take and say that's a fact.
Nfts dying down is a clear reflection of it, nobody but a few cryptobros liked them. This biocard site itself is a cool idea which was ruined by a fad that wasn't necessary, it was a dumb bandwagon and I'm happy to see everyone coming to their senses and abandoning nfts, just sad otherwise cool biocard trading site goes down with it.
On the Trading Post, we offer certain digital collectibles that are non-fungible tokens (NFTs): unique digital items stored permanently on a blockchain.
As on Campfire, you dismiss any numbers you don't like as biased, because you apparently only accept analysis from some mythical neutral source that always agrees with you, yet never cite that source.
So, tell us: Since you think web3 is "growing exponentially," what's your source?
But the really big question: If you don't Trading Post is an NFT project, what do you think is web3 about it?
I have minted this post as an NFT. It's MY post now, so y'all better quit trespassing.
EDIT: Here's the crop I used, in case any of y'all would like to become co-owners of this post. The extended background is to avoid having weird whitespace on the card.
User-created Player Cards are not currently stored on the blockchain, but this may change in the future as we continue to develop content policies and guidelines for Player Cards.
Has anyone thought that maybe they shut it down because they didn't have any time to actually develop it as all of their time was deleting pogo spam on campfire. Btw they are the only team that did. Have you seen the #trade-post channel since the announcement :(

Oh I'm aware, doesn't mean I can't appreciate the product while still disliking the base idea they made it for.
Your player count can be easily disproven by looking at eth's polymer blockchain which trading post used. It's all public for anybody to look up.

Cautious optimism is what I class myself as.
Niantic Trading Post, really missed their market audience, already mentioned that it is something more suited for the NBA All World players.
I don't play that game anymore. Tried it, and felt it is wasn't for me.

I had no idea this existed.
Really? Is that it?
Because Niantic's Campfire and Trading Post are about to be shutting down forever?
Well, that's good!!! Cause I can't wait for see more updates for Niantic games and Ingress Prime!!!!
A centralised place for viewing/organising/designing/printing physical biocard images would have been better, with no NFT association.
That said, it's probably way too late in the game for this to be a huge success nowadays.

That isn't a fair reflection.
Much of the world is moving to the Web3 architecture.
Blockchain is not the same thing as crypto currency.
Trading Post was primarily on Niantic's servers, not on a blockchain
Anyways, back to playing Ingress
Campfire is not shutting down. Just the associated Trading Post chat on Campfire.

Woah, what a twist!
Once again, Niantic proving his lack of community comunication and only listening what they want to hear.
Exponentially growing? Are you serious?
Dude, you are the worst kind of fanboy. Anything you like, you just straight up lie and insist everybody else likes it, too.
I am no fan of NFTs
@XK150 please read carefully.
Web3 are not NFTs
Web3 is not cryptocurrency
And yes, Web3 is growing exponentially
You can have NFTs without Web3, or a blockchain, in fact it is common place for thousands of years. Eg buying a painting.
The term NFT is being flung around without any regards to what a Non Fungible Token system is.
Please don't post links to articles on potentially biased opinions. This is a common way people fall into believing in misinformation.
@Falenone
And again for the millionth time I'm saying the same thing, Niantic Trading Post are digital trading cards, not NFTs
There is zero currency being transacted.
Digital Trading Cards, are just that, Trading Cards in a digital format.
They are not NFTs.
And to everyone else, please understand that I am not a NFT fan where said token is on a crypto exchange.
It seems Niantic disagrees:
On the Trading Post, we offer certain digital collectibles that are non-fungible tokens (NFTs): unique digital items stored permanently on a blockchain.
You're repeating the same nonsense you spewed on Campfire. The very first article in the Trading Post help center explains it's an NFT project.
As on Campfire, you dismiss any numbers you don't like as biased, because you apparently only accept analysis from some mythical neutral source that always agrees with you, yet never cite that source.

No need to argue about web3 or nft, trading post is no more, thanks to our support.
What should we support next, this is the question. Maybe AR? but I want to see new fancy glyphs first.
I have minted this post as an NFT. It's MY post now, so y'all better quit trespassing.

It seems you failed to read the next paragraph:
User-created Player Cards are not currently stored on the blockchain, but this may change in the future as we continue to develop content policies and guidelines for Player Cards.
It was marketed as and intented to be NFTs.
That's what doomed it from the start.
Whether they actually did or didn't, is not the point.
(We all know they didn't or else we would still be able to access them after shutdown.
Has anyone thought that maybe they shut it down because they didn't have any time to actually develop it as all of their time was deleting pogo spam on campfire. Btw they are the only team that did. Have you seen the #trade-post channel since the announcement :(
No, because that's a stupid theory. The Trading Post Campfire getting overrun was a symptom of the shutdown, not the cause.
It's only biased opinion if you disagree with it.🙄
You know you made it when https://web3isgoinggreat.com/?id=niantic-shutters-its-web3-project-after-less-than-six-months
Well done on being quoted!
