Mission Day After Event Report, Champaign-Urbana, IL, USA, 10/22/2022
Champaign-Urbana, Illinois was proud to host its first ever Mission Day on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Over forty agents from across the midwest made the journey to this college town in central Illinois for missions, unique portals, delicious food and local beers, and amazing weather and fall foliage. Unseasonably warm temperatures, bright sun, and a cooling breeze made for a perfect day to do missions scattered between our two towns and the University of Illinois campus. Many agents got a head start on Friday night with some local banners and unique hunting. Organized Mission Day activities started on Saturday with donuts at Hessel Park, a 40+ portal park with a storied history in local Ingress lore. Agents then moved throughout town as they completed their missions, and we ended with drinks and local food in downtown Champaign at Pour Brothers, a pour-your-own taproom offering craft beer, cider, and mead.
About a dozen agents completed all 18 missions (including an agent who completed all missions and travel between them on foot - the kinetic capsule daily limit was definitely reached!) and were rewarded with special prizes: custom pins, mugs, playing cards, and Chicago's beloved liqueur, Malört*.
*Suggestions that Malört is not in fact a reward, but is actually a punishment were quickly rejected by locals. ;-)
Agents yngemar (ENL) and cammyb63 (RES) were the official hosts, but a larger team helped us along the way, including agents luminous2u, MadKecleon, jazztrpt and grider80. We were grateful to have the support of local tourism board visitchampaigncounty.org, who helped us with logistics, information, and planning around other local events. A big shoutout to local agent CrimsonGrimoire for providing two beautiful new banners and special thanks to NianticThia and the mission review team for expediting their review in time for our event. Many thanks to Thia for generalized support throughout the process, and pressing all the buttons behind the scenes that made our Mission Day possible.
And finally, thank you to all our participants - we're so happy you were able to join us, and we look forward to seeing you at future events. It's time to move, agents!
