It does not work perfectly because in the rss xml, every <link> tag contains the URL https://www.ingress.com/news/ and not the URL of the article.
The correct URL is in the <guid> tag.

It's interesting that you stated guid. I bet this is how they make the news items viewable in the scanner under the News tab.
However, I wonder if it could be automated to the forums. It might be coding overkill.
Did this ever get fixed or has anyone found the RSS feed? Looking to integrate automated news into my discord.
With the redesign of the website a few days ago the old RSS feed and other ways to get the posts were removed. To automatically get the post now I assume you'd need to manually code a bot for now which opens the news page every so often to check if something new got added.
The feed was never fixed and is now removed.
But a feed can now be generated from the new website using https://morss.it/
