It is meaningless for random rotation when click portal. I understand the rotation is fancy, but it make us difficult to choose portal at charge war and deploy war
I am not sure if the programmer have play ingress. Or just make some fancy effect to fill up feature list ....

seems a third world problem.....
I think you mean #FirstWorldProblem?
Also
Can we please get rid of portal flames?
Trying to defend and select portals on scanner FAST and I cannot see them because of the flame effect.
The portal flames are not intended and a bug that Niantic can't figure out how to stomp out. The rotation when opening a portal is intended.
@InvestigateXM
Niantic can't figure out how to stomp out.
Yeah they can. But they're unwilling to remove the flames from the main portal view, and therefore have to retain the portal flame bug in the main playing area.
@bructus pretty much any Ingress problem is a "first world problem". Does that mean we can't report bugs and UI issues?
I absolutely agree that flames are useless but this should be written in new topic imo.
I think the portal rotation effect turns you so that north is at the top of the screen.
But I don't think it's consistent - sometimes it does; sometimes it doesn't. Maybe when Niantic servers are busy, it trims out unnecessary movements?
It's bad when it happens with a drone move/hack - makes it hard to keep up with which unique portals it has visited or not, when the screen re-orients.
The portal rotation effect makes it so that the eight resonators are always at certain angles on the screen when you're in the detail view. I'd guess that it's intended to make the resonators line up with the health bars along the left and right edges of the screen.
It doesn't.
The slight rotation is generally to align the portal's resonators in the 8 point grid, so that the markers on the side align with the visual. Which means at most it needs to turn no more than 1/16th of the circle.
Imagine the data that could be save from if the portal photos would stop randomly appearing as well!
Been asking for low data option for use in low signal area since Prime was released.
There's no "certain angles". Resonators always go in cardinal directions. The north resonator has a red chevron (compass arrow) next to it.
Yes, "The slight rotation is generally to align the portal's resonators in the 8 point grid" - and this "8 point grid" is always oriented as N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW.
If you're ever having a flash farm with 8 people, you can assign a cardinal direction to each person, to speed up the loading (so you won't be clobbering each other's intended slot).
That's essentially what we said. 😛
And that's very different from "the portal rotation effect turns you so that north is at the top of the screen" (your words), which isn't true. I can make the north resonator appear in any of the 8 slots at will, simply by rotating my screen a little bit before tapping on the portal.
Thanks for reiterating what I (and @Toxoplasmolly) said?
And remember, the red mark didn't launch with Prime. We had to lobby to get it reinstated.
The rotation effect that most annoys me though, is the disambiguation one.
As visible in the video:
This is meaninglessly confusing.
The problem is last for long time.
It seem that, when click to portal via log or key, Rotation angle will be greater. It is difficult to choose target , especially portal key is near portal.
So in rapid deploy war and charge portal war, it is difficult to choose correct target portal.
Sweet Christmas, where is this place? I'm lucky to have that many in my normal suburban Long Island town IN GENERAL, let alone just down one block!
Can I add the zoomed in effect that is performed at the last second? It's not when the view is moved to the portal, there's a "magnified" effect added to the background. It also happens when exiting out from the portal menu.
I have never had an issue.
And enjoy the cool factor of it.
Too many effects have been removed, which has, for me, significantly reduced my enjoyment of the game. As they added flavour and flair.
This is from someone who has played a variety of games since the early 80s. While I generally dislike games that spend their efforts on effects to sell their games', there is an inflection point that is value-added
