Kythera Anomaly

So I was in discussion with my local Ingress community regarding application for this event. Seems like players don’t want to commit to organizing this and the feedback was that it involves a lot of work to be a point of contact, and there is no support from Niantic to cover cost.

What I see so far for the short time that I played is that all events is about battle beckons and battle beckons sale packed as different events. Nothing different in terms of graphic in the game. Is there any event that looks different and not a repackage of the same idea over and over? The only thing that looks different is the badge.

Why does it have to be a sponsor event? What’s so special about it?

Previous anomalies used to have far more interesting rule sets, though the actual in-game graphics weren't much different from what we have now:

Anomalies go much, much farther back than the few listed currently on ingress.com, but that's enough to give the idea that they have a history of being more than simply "capture some portals at the appointed times." And if you read through those rule sets carefully, you'll notice that the series aren't exactly the same, that the rules have slowly evolved over time.

It's also worth noting that Niantic has promised to give only one week's notice for the sites they select for Kythera. That's not enough time to organize the elaborate Agent-run affairs that accompanied pre-pandemic anomalies, which were typically announced a month or more in advance. People need to calibrate their expectations accordingly.

The level of commitment from the agents and communities is different in every place.

All you really need to do is find 2 agents, one from each faction, and work to submit the form.

IF after that your proposal is accepted, then Niantic will probably reach out if they need anything else from you.

I dont really understand what costs are you talking about.

You say that you have played for a short time, and if all you have seen for Anomalies is Battle Beacons, perhaps you should investigate more about previous anomalies, what the rules have been, how big the playbox are, and how many people usually assist. There is a lot of reports and info on the web.

As a POC you may want to do additional stuff for your Faction, like swag, banner missions, organize teams, etc. and you can do it on your own or with help from more players, but none of this is required by Niantic.

For Kythera, it looks like Battle Beacons will again be the main play dynamic, but that does not mean that the rules will be the same as in Kureze. Links and Fields could become more important than interactions with the battle, or moving shards across the portals while having the Beacons active.... there is still a lot of things to do with a Battle Beacon that has not been explored before and that could be fun
