Starting this quarter, each quarter, we will evaluate the following temporary changes added in early 2020 to determine their impacts on gameplay while considering real world circumstances:
- Number of Level 7 Resonators deployed per Portal by Level 7+ Agents return to its original 1 deploy count, down from 2 deploys per Portal
- Portal cooldown between hacks to be adjusted up from 90 seconds
- Portal recharge AP to return to its original value of 10 AP, down from 65 AP
Agents will be given two to four weeks' notice if and when any updates are made to the temporary changes.
As always, please remember to be aware of your surroundings. We encourage players to follow local health and safety guidelines when playing Ingress (such as wearing masks and maintaining at least six feet/two meters of distance from other people). For the latest on in-game events and feature updates, be sure to check COMM > NEWS.

I can't imagine ever going back to the standard 5-minute cool down between hacks. The current reduced time is truly a positive game-changer. Please consider making the permanent cool-down period less than 5-minutes.
For February and March: "Completing any 6 unique Ingress Missions will increase your [ REDACTED ] medal by 1 count" - I assume copy/paste error, and it's still the Mission Day medal being increased?
That's something! Now how about quarterly feature roadmaps?
There is a new medal starting in February.
January is the last Second Sunday to count towards Mission Day medal.
Really bad news regarding the temporary changes. They must be made permanent or the game will loose a lot of players. I cannot image what is the sense behind this decision, it just makes the game worse for everyone.
Please keep cooldown at 90 seconds or around 2 minutes. 5 minutes for baseline is atrocious especially when key farming off the radar. 2x 7s are okay as well. I'm actually fine if all three of the changes were permanent, they either speed up gameplay significantly which gives you more time to explore and less farming, or don't impact the game that much to matter.
I can't even begin to express how much I dislike the reversions to resonators, cooldowns, and AP for recharges. All of these were great and helped speed up gameplay.
It's the new [REDACTED] badge.
I agree that lower portal cooldown should be kept. The other two temporary changes making the game a bit too easy so are not to my liking.
Separate Second Sunday badge is very welcome. Looking forward to new Mission Days!
Keep the 90sec cooldown & the double r7 😭
please leave the hack time as it currently is! This makes the game faster and more enjoyable for those who like to build.
Destroying resonators is easy enough.
I'm good with any/all of the temporary changes being changed back. That very short cooldown time will be missed though. I don't see any of them being changed anytime soon with how the world is going right now.
great job with this calendar.
Very excited to see new events on the schedule.
Heart broken to see that reverting back to the 5 min cool down is even being considered seeing how the 90 second cooldown is one of the best things that has happened to the game.
Edit: Regarding the Ingress2S medal, please consider not keeping the tiers as atrocious as the FS medal. No one wants to wait 3 years to get a freakin' Onyx medal. Some of us like to work on wings for things too.
Don't bring the 5 minutes cooldown, please. It's the worst!
Given the recent news regarding the Omicron variant of COVID-19, reversion of the current portal behavior to anything resembling pre-pandemic behavior - particularly with regards to the cooldown between hacks - should be off the table.
Great news! Really glad to hear that!
Also wish to move 2S points from MD to 2S medal :)
Calender is great, but with a lot of parts of the world going back into full lockdown (a month was just announced here in the Netherlands) it is just too soonTM imho to revert back to temporary changes.
It sometimes feel that Niantic just looks out the office window in San Francisco and decides global changes based on their local situation.
The 2nd R7 deploy and the extra recharge ap can go
The shorter cooldown between hacks needs to stay cauz of pandemic still around
Return from 90s to 5 mins will be really hard.
What about a new cd system, something like:
first 4 hacks - 120 sec cd
next 4 - 180
next 4 - 240
others - 300 sec?
I'm for permanently changing the hack time but what do we do with the existing heatsinks? Shouldn't those mods be adjusted in response?
"It sometimes feel that Niantic just looks out the office window in San Francisco and decides global changes based on their local situation."
This! I feel this as well.
The return of redacted........ ??? :p
"It sometimes feel that Niantic just looks out the office window in San Francisco and decides global changes based on their local situation."
This is EVERYTHING Niantic. in every decision they make it exudes "California bubble".
Even if the 90 seconds is decided to be changed I think it might be worth re-evaluating the hack cooldown time and not going right back to 5 minutes. Doing 2-3 minutes is worst than the 90 second we already have but would be much more tolerable then the 5 minutes we had before.
Also interested in the tiering of the new badge for Second Sunday since it's something you can only get 1 tick a month for. Then again I was skeptical for the 3 years of the ifs and we just were able to hit that last month.
Many of us will like this news. I'm sure.
Thanks! 🤩
Y'all need to read carefully ;)
This doesn't mean we'll get back to 5 minutes. All the other points specifically mention that they'll go back to their original values:
5 minutes is still up from 90 seconds
Very excited about the new medal for Second Sunday! The monthly event has been very well received in my play area.
Please keep the 90 second cooldown as a priority. Any longer would reduce the amount I field and I'm already pretty mediocre at that.
The second L7 is a massive help in areas that don't regularly have more than a few agents and it would really hurt to lose that.
It would be amazing to have an unlockable/purchasable toast badge during toast week
I am not looking forward to the return of
1 - R7 per agent, being the only consistent agent in my 25km circle going back to only P5s will be rough. Was very nice when I could talk my wife into reinstalling the game to for a day or 2 to have some P7 portals to hack without a 1h drive.
2 - Poral cool down adjusted up from 90 sec to 300 sec, While I can live with that, I'd love to see something like 120sec for hack 2, 180 hack 3, 240 hack 4, and all hacks after being 300 secs, putting a heatsink brings your hack back to first hack, gives common heatsinks more value.
3 - Charger AP value - While this will have zero impact on me since I don't really recharge, I think the recharging AP gives people under BIG fields more value in the game play, and we really need more value for the new players stuck under big fields, you're not getting a new player to do a 2+h round trip to clear their sky. I'd hate to see this change go back for that aspect, but again no skin off my back.
I am REALLY liking
This will have a new player positive impact but shouldn't negatively impact the overall game, I'd love to see way more events set up with under field linking short distances. helps the newbie players get leveled up to fight those of us with years of experience.
