I hope that means that the issues with Portals not appearing is now sorted in this latest version.
This is unfortunate, Ingress is no longer the base of other Niantic games, are we agents going to be forgotten about now @NianticBrian
Now the million question I've been looking forward to ask since I predicted this:
>> Which picture gets chosen to be the cover of a portal in Wayfarer?
a) Still Ingress' most voted (old criteria)
b) Another one game's most voted picture (PoGo, Wizards, [Catan, soon?] - a weird option since there have been some bugs where some portals' galleries [in Ingress] have photos that don't show on the corresponding PokeStops' galleries [in PoGo] (and sometimes vice-versa... and can't really speak about Wizards)
c) Most voted picture overall (Sum of all the votes from all games, even though that may not be the same photo in each game)
d) The most voted picture among all the cover photos among all games (basically a "face-off" between the cover photos in each game. If the 3 games have 3 different pictures as their Wayspot (PokéStop, Portal, Inn) cover, the most voted one among the 3 becomes the "main" photo (for Wayfarer)
I'm really curious about this, honestly, and hopefully more people are too.
I don't understand why an agent only being able to deploy one L8 reso is a change? Except for special events, it's always that way. I hope it doesn't mean portals can't be upgraded by other agents....

I'm really curious what the plans are to handle images going forward as well. I always submit in Ingress because I liked having the first (and usually only) portal photo to have my agent name. Anything submitted through another game just shows up as "Unknown" which is pretty insulting - but understandable I guess. Does this change how that is handled? Will PoGo ever get credit? It could be as simple as "Agent: Name", "Trainer: Name", "Wizard: Name" for example. I use my same name in all games but I know some people don't. I'd **** for a Wayfarer app though specifically to handle POIs and nothing else - just yesterday I was in a town where my cell service dropped to 3 bars instead of 4 and even though I tried for 30 minutes straight I could not get a submission to send through Ingress. I finally gave up and tried my first ever submit through PoGo and it worked the first try. Is there a difference in background processes that makes submitting so much harder in one game over the other?
Oooh, that would **** me off, too! I realize Pogo is moneybags & ingress isn't, but I'd hoped that supporting the game with the monthly subscription would help keep it relevant. But when pogo works and Ingress doesn't, it's sad. And I also hope that the pogo submissions don't say "unknown " anymore 🤞
Absolutely not. Portals is all on the server. A version update does nothing here.
One bugfix for 2 weeks lmao. Hopefully you didn't break something this time.
So when do we get fixes that are actually benefitting daily play?
Please let us know at least that you are working on solving the constant lag we have experienced over the last months for any game action.
Yeah, wel for me personally; I demand a roadmap. I’ve stopped my CORE subscription, it’s ridiculous. Second time since CORE a patch comes out without any changes for iOS.
Add the fact that there are zero updates on the 900+ bug reports, the game just not responding half the time and it’s just so incredibly sad.
How about fixing infinite deploy/recharge huh? There's no 30+ minutes play time session where I don't have a resonator deploying forever and have to restart the game.
definitely experiencing this more and more. Gets pretty bad during battle beacons especially
the very case when the company scored on its product. There are no translation fixes, no plot, new content was more than half a year ago. only the list of new bugs is missing.
expected more in this update.... the deploy lag is really frustrating still not solved.
a roadmap would be nice its been a while since we last got one...

I don't understand how the migration to lightship is relevant to the scanner update.

That migration has already been done and is working with the 2.79 version.If it's just to double the content of this release notes…For quite some time server side upgrades are also reflected in the release notes. Although nothing in the scanner itself has changed.
But yes it helps to make it appear something changed in the app, while for iOS there is literally nothing different between the two versions (based on the patch notes)
I have a theory.
Before, there was a specific server(s) for Ingress containing the content shared between the games (wayspots location, name, pictures, description…) and the content specific to ingress (xm, resonators, mods…).
With pogo (and hpwu), these shared informations where centralized in lightship.
But there was still a duplication of the data in the ingress server, and duplication is bad for the coherence.
That's why the latest photos added to wayspots where visible in pogo but not ingress, they were not sync (because of the lightship migration coming I think).
With the migration of ingress to lightship, there is no more duplication, but the scanner was not yet able to talk directly to lightship, so the ingress server was acting as a proxy.
This new update integrate the direct communication with lightship, that's why it's in the changelog.
Back when I first started I liked the idea that "Ingress Agents" had the better power/control over the OPR Network and while wayfarer was supposed to be a better replacement and allow more agents/players/trainers across the multiple of niantic games submit and review new points (POI's) depending on there level it now just feels that the dedicated reviewers and control has just gone out of the window and people can just run riot and play havoc with the system taking away the fun.
The only real way to make Ingress relevant again is restoring OPR and getting rid of Wayfarer & having Ingress Agents validate things again,yet I guess Wayfarer is still valid in a customer service style enviroment but I preferred it when our forum was busier and not "Archived" everywhere to the fact that only a few sections now work.
It was the "how are the map points/gyms/inns etc.. put out there in the games hmmm" question that intrigued me as I played to HPWU then I decided to learn about Ingress and play that over the other games which are just really designed for fun where ingress to me felt more "serious" and "dedication" and "stay hidden" was needed while making Triangles and owning portals for more advanced features in the scanner to be unlocked eg...drones,opr,mission creator,portal scans & I also liked the fact "COMM" was there to see other players nearby but these days it seems what we have had to work towards earning that pogo players get automatically except for submissions (lvl40+)
Ingress felt a bit like the Matrix and that us agents were more like Dark Web Hackers controlling the Real Digital World.
The detox was hard for me when I lost access to play and i kept still seeing my area through my eyes as if it was on the scanner and not the real world in front of me,I love explored the beauty of my area these days when I explore but there are times I wish I could open the scanner and continue where I left off...ONE Day maybe.
And Finally...I expected more in this update too @mortuus 😁.
I think it's obvious that Niantic wasn't to make one game have more control over the POIs than others. Look at how many people joined Ingress just to abuse that aspect. Even though Ingress reviewers might have a better idea of the guidelines, Niantic has centralized their POI efforts to Wayfarer.
The guidelines for any nominations are de facto Wayfarer guidelines. They are planning to make improvements to the onboarding for any kind of nominations but in Niantic fashion that obviously isn't going to happen overnight.
It's also important to note the lack of communication from Niantic because a lot of reviewers from the other games do want to improve the network but it's about on the same difficulty as following the Ingress lore to find centralized discussions. People eventually find them after a while.
What about the location edits not appearing in PoGo, done through Ingress

Have you fixed the incredible amount of latency in the game? Like portals getting stuck on deploy everytime you try to deploy 8 resonators, Hacks not completing quickly etc. The game literally can't keep up with simple functions anymore, oh and also comms is still not working properly, portal updates occurring in the corner of the screen still aren't being shown in activities.
Works extreme slow and laggy now. Please resolve the bug soon and slow servers.
Jesus christ. This game is SO abandoned by developers.
Just discontinue the app already
