XM and Landmarks

Today I witnessed a portal appear out of nowhere.

I can't speculate as to the cause of it. Not until I've done a bit more research. The landmark in question needs to remain hidden among the myriad markers on the Intel map until then. It's not a coincidence that this landmark has been gaining local attention and it is my belief that XM from this particular site was projected into a usable portal by the collective perception of this small town. It's like a quantum force of some kind.

If XM is linked to the collective mental energy of an area, the places it condenses are clearly important to more than just us on the agent side. Who else has been perceiving these sites?

As far as research from the NIA goes (and I hope I remember it right), portals have existed for millions of years. The reason it seems like a portal "appears out of nowhere" is because the scanner needs to be calibrated and tuned for the portal to show up.

In addition, it's not that portals appear where landmarks are built and where humans congregate, it's the other way around. The portal inspires the people around it to "mark" it and attracts others to it.
