I used name change only to remove numbers from my agent name. The letters remained the same just the numbers got removed.
I'd like to change my agent name into something else now. Is it possible now?

Yes. I asked this before on support but:
You can't reuse any of previous name.
Officially no - that is the one and only offical chance you get.....
Unofficially, there are agents on there 7th of 9th name change...
My orientation was to only change my name if really necessary. It's not a free name buffet. I believe if they identify it as some sort of abuse, they can lock it.
I recommend that you visit Ingress support, and request the change of your CodeName, indicate the reason, and you can do it without problem.
I have known a few players that change their game name unusually frequently, but not in the last couple of years.
I've been told some agents have changed their codename for a 5th time. It should only be change if it's extrictly necessary.
I've changed my codename 4 times. If that helps.
We have ENL agent in our city who changed his codename at least four times. I think, NIA let you change it again and again, but be carefoul, you can't choose the same name you had sometimes before.
How do you go about changing your name?
Visit the Ingress support and contact them via this form: https://niantic.helpshift.com/a/ingress/?p=web&contact=1
Thanks for the help guys 🙂
Thanks for reaching out @VolimTablete. As @InvestigateXM mentioned, all you need to do is, raise a request for a Codename Change along with your associated email address with the Ingress account, via our Help Center: https://niantic.helpshift.com/a/ingress/?p=web&contact=1 We'll take it from there, cheers!
Two. First is guaranteed, second time only in difficult situations.
I know an agent who is on (I think) his 15th name change.
Without limit afaik.
Is there a way to know in advance that desirable code name is available?
@NianticKK I'd like to know that too
@ElfMyosotis, @Voldemort1324:
Is there a way to know in advance that desirable code name is available?
I seem to recall that in the old days, you could send a message in cross-faction COMM to the name you wanted — for example, "@MyNewName Hi!". If the name showed in COMM as green or blue, then you knew it already belonged to some other agent. If it showed as white, then the name was available.
Unfortunately, a new agent could take the name in between the time when you checked it and when your request went through, so this didn't always work perfectly. It was best to have a few new names in mind.
I don't know whether this trick still works today. At the least, it should still tell you whether a name already belongs to some other agent.
I also know some who changed back to her original IGN after, like 5 changes?
I am also aware that changing IGN 'after spoofing' is a method of getting away.
Thanks for asking @ElfMyosotis and @VolimTablete! you can always raise a code name change request in in-app and try to set the desired code name, if you are not able to set desired code name please get in touch with our in-app support and one of our team members will assist you. However please keep in mind that it should comply with our Terms of Service.
In 6 years I have changed nicks 10 times (total of 11 nicks)
Requested several times 11th nick change but always denied even after 1 year.
There is absolutely no need to change a username so often, and is probably part of the reason why NIA changed the rules on agent name changes (as detailed below).
Well done!
UserID can be changed many times. We had a local who did it multiple times in a month years ago. Just have to know the correct terminology to use, to get it changed.
Also, important to note you can't change your name to an old one you have used before
That's been the policy from the start but do a request and you'll be approved in days.
