Update: Agents successfully executed 642,324 Drone hacks and Drone Glyph hacks, far exceeding the Global Target of 400,000 hacks and unlocking boosted 2X Power Cube drop rate from all Portal hacks and Drone hacks for 1 week, until Tues, Jan 26 at 17:00 UTC. Well done, Agents!
Agents, this weekend we will (virtually) gather through the Dronenet. From Friday, January 15th 17:00 UTC to Tuesday, January 19th 17:00 UTC, the cool-down time of Drone Mark I will be reduced from 60 minutes to 15 minutes. A collective goal of achieving a total of 400,000 Drone hacks or Drone Glyph hacks during this event will unlock a 2X drop rate of Power Cubes following the event, from Tuesday, January 19th 17:00 UTC to Tuesday, January 26th 17:00 UTC.
- All Drone hacks and Drone Glyph hacks will be counted towards the 400,000 Drone hack target. For example, hacking the same Portal twice will count as 2 Drone hacks.
- Hacking and/or Glyph hacking a Portal without the Drone will not be included in the collective Drone hack target count; only hack actions through the Drone will be counted.
- Progress of reaching the goal of 400,000 hacks will be updated once per day on the News Feed.
- This event will not have a Medal nor a new personal Agent Stat added to the Scanner.
Boost your gameplay by picking up the BOGO Apex Bundle, available for the duration of the event. The Apex Bundle includes 2 Apex Mods for 2500 CMU.
While this event can be played at home safely, as always, please remember to be aware of your surroundings. We encourage players to follow local health and safety guidelines when playing Ingress (such as wearing masks and maintaining at least six feet of distance from other people).

This sounds great but would have been the perfect time to add a Drone Hack medal, or any medal related to the Drone.
Or even some extra Drone stats.

Niantic you literally ms painted a badge for osiris could you just do that at the bare minimum for this event and give us a badge? LOL
It's nice to get an event but Medal please! 2X powercubes is just not attractive enough a motivation.
The only good thing about this is that since there's zero benefit or 'event'-ness to it, it doesn't encourage people who would otherwise never use drones, to care.
Cubes are nice for lots of people. I recycle everything that isn't a hypercube so aside from glyph points there is little incentive (for me) to participate in this event. Scanner candy would have at least given agents in my position a reason to do this. But events are usually great. Please do more of them.

Great, we needed an event, hope this will be the firestarter for more "anything" events and with something as a result of achieving or not the goal.
Also ideas, for a series of events and at the end a badge or new glyphs or any other new ANYTHING into ingress. 👍👍

Seems to be a few disagree reacts to any mention of a drone badge. Would anyone who isn’t in favour of a “normal” non-event badge related to the drone want to share why they don’t want it?

If over the 4 days, people maxed out their drone hacking for 8 hours each day, you'd only need just over 3000 people to participate.

Dear Niantic PPL, probably you know the real players count, if you want 400 000 hacks... because I cannot participate in this event full time due to my wife restrictions. I cannot play Ingress 24/7 you know. And what is the reason for me to wait 15 minutes and wait again and again and again if I will get Nothing? As in your previous November event (capture 100500 portals with no medal)...
I'll do 1 drone hack for you to amuse your pride.
Now look up the number of active daily players (about 5k, i'd say), that's 16 hacks per day per agent on average if i'm not wrong.
Sounds reasonable enough.
As far as I can tell, there hasn't been an event where one could earn a medal since Feb 2020, correct? I'm not including the tessellation deal.

I will hack them all!!! And I can see a new design medals, as well!!
And I will glyph hack them all, cause we are RESISTANCE agents as blue teams!!! And since I got all medals at once in my scanner, the number of counts must be outnumbered!!
