Update on the Eos Protocol

Thank you for sharing your feedback about the Eos Protocol. We’ve heard your concerns about hosting a competitive season in the current environment, and we’ve made adjustments to our upcoming Eos Protocol plans.
What’s changing:
- Removed Global Challenge thresholds and individual tiered challenges.
- Removed Eos Protocol medal.
- Removed Faction winner and VRLA reward.
What’s staying the same:
- Temporary bonuses scheduled through November and December.
- Year 8 medal will be awarded to all Agents who’ve earned more than 0 AP since the Year 7 medal was distributed. Medal distribution will take place some time after Phase 1 ends on Tuesday, November 17th and follows the same medal tiers as Year 7: Levels 3/9/13/15/16.
Eos Protocol schedule:
Phase 1: “Light Up The Portal Network and Celebrate Year 8”
Start: Mon, Nov 9, 2020 17:00 UTC (9:00 AM PST)
End: Tues, Nov 17, 2020 17:00 UTC (9:00 AM PST)
Temporary Boosts during this Phase:
- Double AP (Apex will stack on top of this Temporary Boost, meaning 4X AP)
- Double deploy L8 Resonators
- Double deploy Portal Mods (up to 4 Mods per Agent per Portal)
Phase 2: “See With New Eyes”
Start: Friday, Nov 20, 2020 17:00 UTC (9:00 AM PST)
End: Monday, Nov 30, 2020 17:00 UTC (9:00 AM PST)
Temporary Boosts during this Phase (APEX will also stack on these Temporary Boosts):
- Halve Dronenet cooldown (Drone Mark I moves every 30 minutes)
- Double Recon medal credit for Wayfarer agreements
- Triple AP for Portal photo submissions
- Double AP for Resonator upgrades
- Double Portal Scan limit
- Earn 500 AP for each Portal Scan successfully uploaded
Phase 3: “Capture Their Minds”
Start: Friday, Dec 4 2020 17:00 UTC (9:00 AM PST)
End: Monday, Dec 14, 2020 17:00 UTC (9:00 AM PST)
Temporary Boosts during this Phase (APEX will also stack on these Temporary Boosts):
- Double AP for Link creation and destruction
- Double AP for Field creation and destruction
- Double AP for Glyph Hacks
- Triple Rare Link Amp drop rate
- Triple SoftBank Ultra Link drop rate

... so, here begins another wait for a good event because people can't obey their local restrictions while playing the game, and decided to ruin the fun for others instead. I'm so pissed!!!!
Ouch, that is a tad overreacting, in my opinion. I think people were the most miffed about the badge, so adjusting how that one is awarded should have calmed some nerves. Removing it outright, together with the competition between factions and the VRLA reward is basically canceling the event as a whole. Now we just have some boni that run throughout the next month (which are still appreciated, btw.)
Good decision considering the current state of pandemic all over the world.👍
Why not a drone event instead? Safe for most. Embrace your drones.

What a joke. You whined louder than anyone about the event. This is exactly what you wanted and you’re still complaining. How in the world are you a community leader?
No one will ever be happy. I don't blame them for cancelling it after the outpour of agents against it but it's a real shame :(
An event like this felt like a good middle ground between getting actual content and staying safe.
Folks are going to be going out for the x4 AP regardless. Why not make the badge faction wide so agents in places that can play are still able to compete while folks who can't still get credit based on faction.

To everyone complaining about the event being "cancelled" all that's being taken out is the competitive side and the badge, we are still getting all the bonuses and it now means people can play locally in places where they are I lockdown or nearing it, stop being selfish over a game, this is win win for pretty much everyone

Pretty lame now. Most people are going to go out for double AP anyways (4X with Apex) Not easy to pass that kinda AP up. Should have kept everything the way it was.
I suppose a compromise would be a participation badge?
It's unfair to make it competitive when people are in lockdown. Personally I avoid town and only play in my local area while going on a walk (excercise is allowed)
You can bet when all this is over there will be absolutely loads of events.
What? The second wave of lockdowns has been expected for months due to the start of flu season.
I think Niantic should have announced this as an idea from the start. If you can play outside, then do it especially with the bonuses! Make an adventure out of it for your own benefit.
I am ashamed of you, Niantic. This is your biggest joint since the Avenir cross-fraction shards. Except I had a desire to open the scanner for the first time in six months for more than 5 minutes, as you cancelled the only reason to do so and listened to the whining. And I'm not even exaggerating to feel that you betrayed us a bit. You should be ashamed of yourself for that.
What a load of ****. No events all year and everyone’s been doing just fine playing socially distant and obeying guidelines. You can still be competitive and stay safe.
This isn’t even an event anymore. No medals, no winner, no incentive to play outside of boosted ap and drop rates.
Half the playerbase has literally been complaining all nemesis sequence about xfac events and no competition. Then we get this and half the playerbase complains and they cancel. *insert dj khalid meme: you played yourself*
