Glyphs - an Introduction

To some it might seem like a mini-game, to others it is the focus of their linguistic fascination. Bit let's not get ahead of ourselves:
1: The Glyph Pad
The Pad consists of a total 11 visible points and is mirror-symmetrical both vertically as well as horizontal. The vertical mirror axis - better known as the CLEAR glyph - consists of 3 points: the top-most, the center and the bottom-most. The horizontal axis contains only a single point.
Using the CREATE or DESTROY glyphs as a mirror-axis will show that there are 2 points that were chosen to omit: the middle between the top-most and the center-point - as well as the middle between the bottom-most and the center point.
In general, each and every point of the glyph grid is part of either the CREATE, the DESTROY or the CLEAR glyph.
2: the Glyphs
In total, there are 2 different types of Glyphs: transitional Glyphs and non-transitional Glyphs.
Transitional Glyphs represent a movement from one point of the glyph-grid to another, they have a clear beginning and a clear end-point. These include:
- SIMPLE
- COMPLEX
- CLEAR, CREATE, DESTROY
- THOUGHT
- MORE, LESS
- BREATHE/LIVE, ****, PATH, BARRIER, SELF, DISTANT/OUTSIDE, DESTINATION
- DISCOVER
- REPEAT, LIVE-AGAIN
- REBEL
- SHAPER, N'ZEER
- UNBOUNDED
- LIE
- IMPERFECT
- ENLIGHTENED
- RESISTANCE
- OLD, NEW
- SHARE
- STABLE
- SAFETY
- DETERIORATE, IMPROVE
- PURE, IMPURE
- GAIN, LOSE
- NATURE, CIVILISATION
- MYSTERY
- IGNORE, FORGET
- WAR/ATTACK, DEFEND
- EASY
- WORTH
- CONSEQUENCE
- INTELLIGENCE
Non-Transitional Glyphs always return to the same starting point when being drawn. These include
- MIND, SOUL, VICTORY
- ACCEPT, NOURISH, REPAIR, BEFORE, AFTER
- ALL, ACCEPT-ALL, CLEAR-ALL, OSIRIS
- TRUTH
- XM
- KNOWLEDGE
- END
- BODY
Many Glyphs are part of a set, the ACCEPT-NOURISH-REPAIR-BEFORE-AFTER set consists of equilateral triangles of equal size drawn in different places of the grid.
What patterns can you think of that would fit an already existing set but isn't a recognized Glyph yet?
Comments
You forgot Toast.
”But” not „Bit” - second line.
I would mention imperfect seperatly because i would Not agree with the clear end point and beginning.
How would you draw it then to have it end at the same point as you started at?
@AstralDreamer1 I also ommitted PRESENCE in the list of transitional Glyphs and the alternate form of CREATIVITY in the list of non-transitional ones. It wasn't meant to be a complete listing of all glyphs (especially given that there isn't a complete list of all glyphs - including those that have been mentioned in Lightman's files but that haven't appeared in the scanner yet). It was meant as an Introduction, not as a "Guide to end all Guides"
@panfolek Thanks, but I can't edit it anymore.
I like your analysis on this! i think most of the glyphs do follow suit with what you are saying here, even imperfect falling in the transitional category because even if it isnt clear at first where imperfect ends, it certainly doesnt end where it started. I love the observation that all glyphs are a part of either destroy, create, or clear/close. I had not paid much attention to that actually. Good work agent!
Oh that's a shame @AstralDreamer1 :-/ Yet another feature that could be improved by Niantic.
