A new phase: Eos Protocol

The NIA, in conjunction with Hulong Transglobal, have instigated Eos Protocol, a 3-phase plan to install safeguards in the Portal Network at the outset of this post-Exogenous era. The Phases are as follows:
- Phase 1: “Light Up the Portal Network”
- Phase 2: “See With New Eyes”
- Phase 3: “Capture Their Minds”
Details about each Phase will be shared with Agents just prior to the start of each Challenge Window. At this time, only the following information has been decoded:
Eos Protocol Objective
Secure each Phase and score more Victory Points than the opposing Faction. The winning Faction will be able to further influence the human mind through Control Fields, amplified by 100 Very Rare Link Amps distributed to 100 participant Agents on the winning Faction, chosen at random and vetted for activity, via single-use passcodes.
Scoring
Factions can score 1 Victory Point for meeting or exceeding the Global Challenge Threshold in each Phase. Phase 3 will include a fourth Victory Point, measured through securing Connected Cells. The maximum number of Victory Points achievable by a Faction is 4.
Win Condition
To win, outscore the opposing Faction in Victory Points. If the Victory Point totals result in a tie, then the Faction with the greatest total points accumulated across Eos Protocol will be victorious.
Eos Medal
There is a single Eos Medal for both Factions, with individual points used to determine Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers, and point totals accumulated across all 3 Phases. This is not an XM Anomaly, and the Eos Medal is not classified as an Anomaly Medal. This is also separate from or independent of the Year 8 Anniversary Medal, which will be granted to active Agents for their contributions in the preceding year after the conclusion of Phase 1.
Phase 1: “Light Up the Portal Network”
- Start: NOV 9, 2020 17:00 UTC (9:00 AM PST)
- End: NOV 17, 2020 17:00 UTC (9:00 AM PST)
- Objective: Capture unique Portals, and neutralize unique enemy Portals
- Temporary Boosts during Challenge Window:
- Double AP (Apex will stack on top of this Temporary Boost, meaning 4X AP)
- Double deploy L8 Resonators
- Double deploy Portal Mods (up to 4 Mods per Agent per Portal)
- Scoring:
- Unique Portals captured per Agent: 3 points/Portal
- Unique Portals neutralized per Agent: 1 point/Portal
- Note that all measurements are new and unique within each Phase. For example, even if an Agent previously captured “Portal X” prior to the Eos Protocol, capturing this same Portal during Phase 1 will still be counted for 3 points because it is new and unique during Phase 1
- If an Agent captures 100 unique Portals and neutralizes 100 unique Portals during Phase 1, they will earn 400 points towards their Eos Medal (100*3 points)+(100*1 point)
- Meeting or exceeding 5M points will earn each Faction 1 Victory Point
- Factions can earn a maximum of 1 Victory Point in Phase 1
- Global Challenge Threshold:
- 5,000,000 points
As always, remember to be aware of your surroundings. We encourage players to follow local health and safety guidelines when playing Ingress (such as wearing masks and maintaining at least six feet of distance from other people).

You are aware most of Europe is now on or about to begin full lockdown because of Covid? Really not sure having something that promotes such gameplay is really appropriate right now as this is going to cause some unnecessary travel.
This seems good. Also like the idea of 4xAP. Makes me hopeful that the Year 8 event will also have it. Maybe I will reach level 15 this year after all.

Many European countries have again confined their population. You incite people to not respect the rules.

Just to make sure, does that mean individual points per agent, or individual points per faction (aka depending on the amount of victory points accumulated by the winning faction)?

And just to make sure there too, the anniversary medal will be awarded like every other year (by level at the end of the first phase)?
Yep, people got bored by pandemic. But yep, people do die because of it.

Much of Europe is facing further Covid restrictions and you are announcing an event to encourage people to go out and play more than usual.
You are a global company running a global game. Pay more attention.

Its not wise to organize this event... not thinking this over didn't you Niantic. Something with covid, lock downs etc? Stupid move... i would reconsider this one

This should be delayed until after the pandemic.
With many European countries in Lockdown or going into, it's not a good idea I think.

People are stupid, that's a known fact. The fear of missing out will get at least one agent out and playing event if it's not safe to do so, and that's already one to many.
I'm all for an event like that, but the thing that hits me in the wrong spot the most is the badge. Badges are the most FOMO thing there is.
It is only global or must every agent capture X quantity unique portals to get medal for free?
Please postpone this event. Just as most agents here postpone their own planned field-OPs.
Seriously, if you Niantic delays these events. I don't want EVER see you complaining on the forum again. You've been so annoying claiming for events and now that you can't go outside, you blame Niantic for it when the fault is on you!

Well, it’s not like this event encourages players to group up. One should be able to safely play these events alone. 🤔

The unfortunate timing for EU agents aside, I think Niantic did a really great job planning this event. It seems well balanced and fun, it has aspects for players who just want badges and for those who enjoy the global game, and it seems like an event that can be easily played alone - vital these days.
I hope to see more events like this in the future!

Would been more safe to do drone event cmon niantic...
I am the only active enlightened agent in all of Jordan, and the only agent of either faction with an active field in the Kingdom. I could capture every portal in the country during this challenge except that would be insane and dangerous to my life. We are surrounded by huge spikes in COVID and will have a government locks on for part of phase one. You guy's are crazy for proposing this now given the state of the world. If I am the only one at a portal in an entire country and it is too dangerous for me, just imagine other places where people actually play this game.

This may be the most tone-deaf thing I've ever heard.
I always play hard to get these badges. I got the top level badge in: Via Lux Odyssey, Magnus Builder, Cassandra Neutraliser (not many got THAT), Dark XM, not to mention all Hexathlon events.
This badge I will get nothing. I will not participate.
I am furious at how thoughtlessly timed this is.
